Details of the new and updated Kia models launching in Australia in 2016.
Kia Sportage - January
Kia’s all-new Sportage SUV will make its Australian market debut in late January, replacing the current six year-old third-generation model.
Revealed in August 2015, the new Sportage sports an adventurous front-end look that could prove polarising for buyers, matched to a profile and rear-end that advances and evolves the look of the current model.
The new Sportage will be offered in Australia with 120kW/200Nm 2.0-litre and 138kW/241Nm 2.4-litre petrol engines, along with a 135kW/400Nm 2.0-litre diesel offering.
A number of new safety features will also be on offer, including lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB).
And, in a first for Kia Australia, Apple Carplay and Android Auto are also confirmed for the new Sportage.
Kia Picanto - March
The tiny Kia Picanto will make its way to Australia early in 2016, following confirmation of a local launch first announced back in August 2015.
The Picanto has been a long-time coming for Australia, despite being available across the pond in New Zealand since 2012.
Kia’s sub-light Picanto was first revealed at the 2011 Geneva motor show, but an early 2015 update saw the little hatch gain refreshed looks and a revised 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine now compliant with Euro 6 emissions regulations.
Exact pricing for the Kia Rio’s little brother is still to be confirmed, although the carmaker has hinted at a drive-away price point of around $14,990.
Kia Cerato facelift - April
Kia revealed a refreshed version of its small Cerato car in December, debuting in Korea with its home-market ‘K3’ badge.
The update revealed new headlights and a broader upright version of Kia’s ‘tigernose’ grille design, along with very lightly revised tail lamps and a new flat-bottomed steering wheel.
Engine options will remain unchanged, which in Australia means 110kW/178Nm 1.8-litre and 129kW/209Nm 2.0-litre petrol engines in the regular range. The Koup Turbo gets a 150kW/265Nm 1.6-litre engine, and changes to that model have yet to be revealed.
The refreshed Cerato is expected to hit Australia sometime around April.
