2016 Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo Sprint being readied for early 2016 reveal

Ford Australia is set to take the wraps off the final performance Falcon ever with the 2016 Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo Sprint being readied for production with an expected early 2016 reveal date.

CarAdvice exclusively revealed earlier this year that Ford would revive the Sprint nameplate and it seems the only vehicle in the Sprint range that will receive a performance upgrade is the XR6 Turbo, with the XR8 Sprint and naturally aspirated XR6 Sprint likely to pick up minor styling changes, but no performance upgrades.

A FordForums user has also revealed a photograph of a Ford Falcon seat with 'Sprint' insignia, which in unison with our previous exclusive spy photographs suggests that Ford is ready to announce the go-fast Falcon, which will see the brand out to its October 2016 local manufacturing cull.

The seat image shows 'Sprint' insignia along with suede side bolsters and white contrast stitching with leather material surrounds. The more premium seat is likely to be joined by some minor exterior styling elements to differentiate Sprint models from the rest of the pack.

Our previously released spy photos show the use of Brembo brakes at the front, along with cross-drilled and slotted rotors. The brakes are likely to be the same as the four-piston Brembo brakes currently fitted to the supercharged V8 Falcon XR8. The Falcon XR8 features four-piston Brembo brakes, with cross-drilled and slotted rotors.

While the same engine was used in the previous generation FPV F6, which used 245mm wide rear tyres, we expect Ford to increase tyre width on the more powerful Falcon XR6 Turbo to 275mm. The increased width will allow the Falcon XR6 Turbo to get off the line quicker and easier.

In addition to the extra power and bigger brakes, the Falcon XR6 Turbo is also expected to get ‘R Spec’ suspension from the outgoing FPV range. The ‘R Spec’ suspension package adds a larger rear sway bar, stiffer shock absorbers and adjusted spring rates. The ‘R Spec’ kit should give the Falcon XR6 Turbo added confidence during cornering.

CarAdvice will keep you posted as more information about the Ford Falcon Sprint range comes to hand.
