The German site subaru.de shows the Basic Impreza diesel at almost the same price as a basic Forrester petrol model. So in NSW it should be $34,500 drive away.

I wonder about the sense of this for Subaru. The AWD makes the Subarus heavier as it is. Add the extra 75 kg or so from the heavier diesel engine and you’ve got a right porker…

My 6cyl boxer petrol engine is always smooth as “Hot knife through butter” till red zone.
I really hope diesel version of boxer engine is as good as petrol boxer.
Cause My 4 years old Liberty needs replacement, if I can.
Forester diesel would be great…But We want to 6 speed Auto.

It has been mentioned a number of times on the show (including the show you mention when it is criticised for having no torque), and JCs dislike for them can be found in articles like the following:

davie, I would’nt worry too much. TG is a (great) light entertainment show, nothing they ever say about any vehicle should ever be taken seriously. Nobody is really that niave are they?

Where are the bad reviews of the UK legacy diesel? Are they on the show or in the mag published? the only one I know of is the switzerland to blackpool economy test when captain slow thought it was pretty good?

I wonder how new this boxer diesel engine is. The guys at Top Gear UK often laugh at how bad the diesel Legacy (Liberty) is.

The Impreza needs a diesel to make it’s AWD drag efficient. I would buy one in diesel for sure
