Porsche 911 Sport Classic special edition

Porsche has unveiled its special edition 911 Sport Classic in the lead up to its official debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Porsche is bringing back the tradition of exclusive series built in very small numbers with the 911 Sport Classic which will be offered in a production run limited to just 250 cars worldwide.

The bespoke 911 has been developed over a period of three years by Porsche Exclusive, the company’s Specialist Department which creates the most outstanding personalised versions of Porsche cars.

The 911 Sport Classic boasts charismatic styling cues inherited from previous generation Porsche's such as the ‘ducktail’ rear spoiler reminiscent of that made famous by the 1973 Carrera RS 2.7 and iconic ‘Fuchs-style’ design of the special custom-made alloy wheels.

Together with these design enhancements the Sport Classic also features a more powerful engine, unique exterior with new front and rear styling, a new centre section in the roof, new side sills, and new design of front and rear lights.

The 3.8-litre six-cylinder boxer engine now pumps out 300kW thanks to modified cylinder heads, a new intake system and new engine management, contributing to the 17kW boost.

The Sport Classic is available exclusively with a shorter-throw six-speed manual transmission and Sport Chrono Package Plus as standard clearly reflecting its name.

The special edition model is capable of zero to 100km/h in just 4.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 302km/h while fuel consumption hovers at 10.6-litres per 100km.

In addition to its Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) sports suspension and ride height lowered by 20 mm, the 911 Sport Classic also comes with a rear limited slip differential and cross-drilled and inner-vented composite ceramic brakes.

Inside, each car has been individually numbered and features a number of exclusive features such as a three-spoke steering wheel with hand-sewn criss-cross seams and a roof lining finished in light-grey alcantara.

A 13 speaker BOSE audio system developed specifically to match the acoustic conditions within the 911 also features as standard.

The 911 Sport Classic will go on sale in the UK from January 2010 with Australian pricing and availability yet to be announced.
