September 2, 2009 by George Skentzos

Known in Europe as the Auris HSD Full Hybrid Concept, it represents a milestone in Toyota’s strategy by introducing its full hybrid technology to a mainstream model.

This marks the first step in the deployment of Hybrid Synergy Drive across the company’s model range

The new Prius Plug-in Hybrid Concept will also make its world premiere in Frankfurt, expanding the capabilities of Toyota’s full hybrid technology.

This latest evolution will allow pure electric operation for short-range day-to-day transportation.

An extensive field trial is due to commence in Europe by early 2010 which will see over 150 units being leased to selected fleet customers.

Frankfurt will also stage the European premiere of the iconic, all-new Toyota LandCruiser, which will go on sale later this year.

Corolla Hybrid? Something to get excited about then.

This couldn’t really come at a worse time considering reports about battery production mining the world of it’s precious metals. The people who buy hybrids may have some sort of environmental conscience (they do mean well, it’s just that hybrids aren’t as good as first thought) but lets just hope Toyota do too. Precious metals can be used for far better and more important things than running yet another Corolla around.

  2. Baddass says:

Why does that Corolla look so bad? It’s because of the blue headlights oh course.

  3. Mitch says:

Isn’t that just a Prius with a new shell?

  4. Tyson says:

No, its the facelift Corolla by the looks of it, with a hybrid powertrain, Prius and corolla share the same platform, so it shouldnt be to hard to do.

  5. Begl says:

    No, its not a facelift,
there actually keeping the one they have until late 2012 but they will also be adding the Auris (corolla hybrid) to the range
