Weekend deals on wheels – November 27

It’s time for the latest instalment of Deals on Wheels, which looks at four factory-backed special offers for all you weekend shoppers.

This isn’t a promotional campaign, just us trying to offer you some interesting suggestions if you’re in the market for some new wheels.

Ford Everest Trend

People have criticised the Ford Everest seven-seater for its pricing, and just a few months into its life cycle, it seems the company is listening.

For instance, the mid-spec Everest Trend — which just won a comparison against the flagship Toyota Fortuner Crusade — is on offer for $62,490 drive-away.

The regular RRP is $60,990 plus on-road costs, which at that price equates to a drive-away price of about $67,000. So you’re saving a few grand here at least.

The mid-spec Everest 4WD gets the familiar 3.2-litre five-cylinder diesel engine and six-speed automatic gearbox combination, 800mm water wading, a low-range setup and off-road modes and a towing capacity of 3.0-tonnes.

Holden Captiva 7 Active

The Holden Captiva isn’t a very good car, but it's better than a five-year old used SUV. And that's the exact point.

Holden has always had the good sense of selling its aged seven-seater family SUV cheap. Very cheap. And this might be its sharpest deal yet.

You can get an automatic Captiva 7 Active four-cylinder petrol with features such as an electric sunroof, reverse-view camera, leather seats, cruise control, ISOFIX and a five-star ANCAP rating for $29,990 plus on-road costs.

You also get free servicing until 2020, and an extended five-year warranty. So you won't be paying much for the first four years you have it.

They key is this: if you really just want maximum space for minimum money, this beats all comers by $10,000 and more. Sometimes average cars get above-average deals.

BMW xDrive range

BMW is currently subsidising on-road charges and taxes on its SUV range — comprising 12-months rego and CTP, and stamp duties.

This means you’re saving thousands and thousands on the price of the X3, X4, X5 and X6 models, though not the new 1.

Kia Cerato Si

We’ve covered the shaper deals that Kia offers on the base Cerato S before, but you might argue that there’s better value to be had on the Si, which is the second-from-top variant.

Kia is currently selling the Cerato Si hatch with six-speed auto for $26,990 drive-away, a saving of about $6000 off list.

Standard features include 16-inch alloys, leather seats, push-button start, dusk-sensing headlights, reverse-view camera, satellite navigation on a 7.0-inch screen, cruise control, six airbags and front/rear parking sensors.

There's also the non-insignificant industry-topping seven-year warranty Kia offers.
