Mitsubishi Triton recalled for soft tonneau screw replacement

Just over 600 of the new 2016 Mitsubishi Triton utes have been recalled this week, over concerns that the soft tonneau cover could become dislodged.

The carmaker says that rivets supplied with the cover may be too short, measuring 14mm instead of the required 17mm.

With the incorrect rivets in place, the tonneau cover will not have been attached securely enough “and may dislodge unexpectedly”.

In the worst case scenario, the company says, the soft tonneau cover could become a hazard to other road users or pedestrians.

Mitsubishi has recalled 605 MQ Triton vehicles, fitted with STC Part Numbers MZ350508, MZ350509 & MZ359510.

The company has confirmed it will contact owners of affected vehicles by mail, although owners can also call Mitsubishi Motors Australia on 1300 1312 11.
