Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio delayed until mid-2016 in Europe – report
The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio will be delayed by six months, with the performance sedan now reportedly not due in European showrooms until the middle of 2016.
Supplier sources have told Automotive News Europe that engineers at Alfa Romeo are currently hard at work refining the car's ride, as well as its safety features.
The car's on-going development will see it miss its stated launch window at the end of this year. At the Giulia Quadrifoglio's unveiling in the middle of 2016, the company said that the M3/C63 AMG-chasing sedan will be the first Giulia model to market, with sales beginning by the end of 2015.
According to the publication's sources, the setback for the Giulia will also see the company's first SUV delayed by around nine months, with a launch now not expected until early 2017.
Over the weekend, Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat Chrysler (FCA), told the industry journal that a slowdown in the Chinese economy will require the company to adjust the priority of models in Alfa Romeo's relaunch.
FCA announced in mid-2014 that it will invest around 5 billion euros ($7.6 billion) to transform Alfa Romeo into a true luxury competitor to BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz.
With eight new models planned, most of them rear-wheel drive, FCA went on the record with its sales target of 400,000 Alfa Romeos per year by 2018. In 2014, around 70,000 Alfas were sold worldwide.
