Geely Bo Yue SUV revealed: Spied ‘NL-3’ drops camouflage

Chinese carmaker Geely, the new parent of Swedish favourite Volvo, has revealed its next-generation Bo Yue compact SUV ahead of an early 2016 market launch.

The Bo Yue’s styling is the work of former Volvo and Ford designer Peter Horbury, entering as the first model to benefit from a full styling programme under the industry veteran’s guidance.

For now, the company has revealed only three images of the Bo Yue, although an earlier set of shadowy teaser images reveal a few additional styling details.

The small new SUV has been spied testing in Australia over the past year, potentially confirming the involvement of experienced local outfit and Geely development partner Premcar, and the carmaker’s own Drive Systems International - although a down-under debut is still to be confirmed.

Early reports had seen the new SUV dubbed ‘NL-3’, but today’s announcement brings confirmation of its final name, Bo Yue, which means “to amply win”.

An English-language badge will also feature when the Bo Yue makes its way to Western markets, although the company has yet to decide on a name.

Geely describes the Bo Yue as its most feature-packed offering yet, with even the new Apple CarPlay infotainment system on-board.

The company has revealed little else to substantiate its technology claims, however, although reports suggest we can expect the option of naturally aspirated and turbocharged 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engines and a naturally aspirated 2.4-litre petrol engine.

Six-speed manual and automatic transmissions are also expected.

More details are promised come as the Bo Yue nears its early 2016 launch into the Chinese market.

The SUV’s English name will also be confirmed in the lead-up to that launch, which suggests that a debut in western markets will not be far behind.
