Lexus flagship coupe spy photos from around the Nurburgring

The new Lexus flagship coupe has been spotted by our photographers in the town of Nurburg, Germany.

These latest photos follow on from smartphone photos that were taken in late July and early August this year. The prototype pictured here seems to be wearing a similar amount of camouflage as the earlier vehicles that were spotted in California.

For this car, Lexus has better disguised the vertical slashes on the rear bumper. On the other hand, we can more clearly see some of the tail-light and headlights graphics, which make heavy use of LED technology.

At the rear, the large Lexus coupe will feature four exhaust tips, although these will be hidden by a rectangular surround.

The prototypes seen here and earlier keep the overall silhouette of the LF-LC concept car, which was launched back in 2011. Alain Uyttenhoven, vice president of Lexus Europe, has said on the record that the LF-LC is "90 to 100 per cent representative" of a new coupe that will be released some time in 2016.

A report last year indicated that the new coupe will be eventually offered with three drivetrain choices. The base car will use a 335kW version of the 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 from the RC F.

In the middle of the pack is a hybrid model with about 373kW of power, while a top-shelf F model will be powered by a turbocharged V8 with around 447kW of power.

It's not known what Lexus' new large coupe will be named, but rumours strongly indicate that it will be badged as either the LC or SC. If it picks up the SC name, the new coupe will revive a nameplate that was discontinued in 2010.

Unlike early SC models, the new Lexus coupe will not have a direct Toyota counterpart.
