Audi RS6 Avant, RS7 Sportback Performance models revealed: ‘Supercars’ due in Australia next year
Audi has unveiled new hotted-up versions of its already wild RS6 Avant wagon and RS7 Sportback models, endowing both with more mojo, and a new Performance badge.
Promising supercar-like performance, Audi has dialled up the all-wheel drive pair’s potent 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 to deliver an S8 Plus-matching 445kW and up to 750Nm of torque - an increase of 33kW and 50Nm - the latter available courtesy of a temporary overboost function.
Both new variants claim a 0-100km/h time of 3.7 seconds, marking a 0.2-second improvement over the ‘base’ RS6 and RS7 models.
The 0-200km/h time is likewise improved, now 1.4 seconds sharper at 12.1 seconds from standstill.
Top speed for the Performance models is limited to 250km/h in their standard form, but the optional Dynamic packages can unlock 280 and 305km/h limits.
Features include an enhanced version of the regular models’ eight-speed automatic transmission, along with air suspension and adjustable dampers, 21-inch alloy wheels and ventilated steel brake discs.
Dynamic Ride Control suspension can be added, as can Dynamic Steering with a continuously variable steering ratio, and carbon-ceramic brake discs to replace the steel items.
Another handy upgrade is the addition of an Audi R8-like steering-mounted control for the Audi Drive Select system, which allows for selectable adjustment of the steering, engine and sound management, the tiptronic auto and the optional sport differential.
Both of the Performance variants will hit Australia in the second quarter of 2016, although pricing and local specifications won’t be revealed until closer to launch.
