Hyundai ix35 revealed ahead of Frankfurt
August 26, 2009 by Matt Brogan
When we last brought you pics of Hyundai’s ix35 it was very heavily disguised in black padding. Well so as not to disappoint in the lead up to Frankfurt, Hyundai have today revealed a few uncovered pics for the world to see.
The brand’s latest SUV showcases Hyundai’s distinctive new ‘fluidic sculpture’ design language and features such design cues as the pronounced hexagonal grille, which will become a recognisable family attribute. The ix35 replaces the popular Tucson model.
The sleeker styling also contributes to enhanced aerodynamics and, coupled with more refined powertrain technology, enables ix35 to deliver markedly better fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions.
More detailed information about the ix35 will be made available when the Frankfurt Motor Show opens on September 15th.

This has more than a hint of Mazda to it.
Um, eurgh. Korean SUVs seem to have yet to catch up with the relative revolution in styling maturity we’ve seen lately.
Very svelte and nice, and significant progress on styling stakes. Lets hope priced right, suspension sorted mega for Australia, inclusions high, gearbox is smooth to operate and motor smooth during use…….as this would rocket up sales chart as mega stunning looking and ahead of most on style and chic!
I think Hyundai and Kia are on sales march up pecking order towards number one world wide. VW is also same! Toyota will be there for bit more….but genuinely look out for this lot catching up fast as!
Looks like a Mazda 2 on stilts.
I like the look, looking forward to hearing the stats….hopefully will get the new 2.2 diesel and six speed
the Mazda 2 mated with a Ford Fiesta to make one giant offspring…the Hyundai ix35
A 4×4 diesel version with low range transfer case would suit me just fine :) Looks like ford Kuga which is also nice to look at.
While I always criticised Hyundai’s design as too much of a hodgepodge of other manufacturer’s designs in the past, I honestly think this design is unique, and good looking in that sense too. In fact, it looks like a nice evolution of Santa Fe’s design… Way to go, Hyundai!
I can also see how this design could translate well into mini hatchbacks and probably sedans too. Japanese manufacturers better take really good note of this, mass production should not cut into the looks department! Up next, the Korean might take over the micro car segment?
This looks great let’s hope Hyundai continue improving the way they have!!! In my opinion they are already better than the Thailand Toyota’s!! having owned a 2006 Yaris and now one week into owning our new i30 diesel wagon the wife and i are finding ourselves fighting over who will drive. This is our first Turbo diesel and the massive torque relative to the fuel consumption (we are managing around 1000 K’s on one tank) is becoming addictive, we overtake anything and have never had to change gears to climb hills, the cruise control just drives like it was an auto….sorry for rambling on and on but we are so happy with this car and engine combo that we tell anyone willing to listen. Thanx Hyundai keep it up and your sales will continue to grow!!!
Agree with the majority, the car looks great and if Hyundai sells a “City” version at the same current price they will have a market winner!
Looks good. Now the specs to confirm that it will get 6speed auto and manual. Already confirmed it will get the 2.0lt “R” series diesel 135kW and 392Nm.
If they continue to sell these at the same price as now, inc. the low $20’s City 2WD edition, they will move heaps of them.
6 speed auto is being mentioned as std, world class no matter how you measure it.
More goals kicked by Hyundai/Kia Group!
Kip
Looks fantastic, but is that Hyundai’s family grille? Doesn’t look that distinctive.
I have followed the Ix-conic (concept) storey for a litte while now and the result looks much better than I would have thought. Well done. Price it right (as Hyundai usually do) and the safety features and no dought this will sell. The new 2lts kia/hyundai diesel auto is surely a must have option.
Hyundai – Kia are pumping out some attractive cars ATM, with more to come the future looks bright. I expect Hyundai – Kia to have huge growth over the next few years.
Goodbye Outlander, hello IX35. That is if it is launched before the lease expires in 8 months.
Looks good, though I can’t help but think it would have looked better without the bar through the middle of the grill. However, low prices and good engines should ensure that they sell loads of them, just as long as Hyundai doesn’t let the praise from the i10, i20 and i30 go to their heads and start to charge more for their cars.
I hope they will sell it for Tucson money, but something tells me I won’t see $23,990 drive away on a new one of these any time soon.
Would look bad without bar through middle of grille…the car looks unreal and massive styled real nice
Looks great. Now, all it needs a good 2.0 CRDI engine and a respectable tranny. I look forward to buying one when this car gets launched.
I think hyundai already launch the New Tuson in Korea
nice look and also nice engine (Euro 5 disel engine)

Looks good! Engine/trans sounds good. Agree that the this will be dearer than current offering.
Well Ford better hurry up and get the Kuga here before us Aussies think that it copied the Hyundai.
What you reckon NM???
Kuga look at 20% cheaper
I know you love the Kuga
Fluidic Sculpture not only looks but sounds like a very generous borrowing of Kinetic Design being used by the current european Ford range….
Constant AWD?
here is some more pics

Yep Andrew M the Kuga is real nice as…….but it takes Ford ‘forever’ to release updates or new models as it sits on its laurels and festers why people dont buy there cars as much as used to. Partly marketting – but more to do with ancient hacks not updated or massively refreshed. I always have said the proportions have to grab your attention really quick, look sharp, svelte and right…to this end the Territory or Ranger looks polished more but massively still ancient and old – when lined up against others it looks massively like a fossil. Old is just that……….old and yesterdays news and Ford seems to like this philosophy! I always have said Ford has some new stunning looking car designs in its artillery…but Ford is largely sitting on them as it ’slowly’ accepts to really liven up its look!
Wow- definitely the Ix has made the transition from show car to production car nicely.
Will definitely look at it when it’s time to upgrade –
I would expect to pay a little bit more than the current car, but then that’s only fair imo.
Saying that though – Hyundai’s always been very careful with their price and positioning , ie, the std I30 being available from $19,990-
I think the new Ix from mid 20’s – seems pretty good value for money – Esp compared to it’s competitors that are all starting from 32k currently.
There is a Korean advert up on Youtube. I like the look of the dash…

Awesome..A person who buys Honda CRV, Toyota RAV4 over Tucson ix must be insane…
Just another example of why Hyundai will bet a top 2 brand, Pricing will be higher than the current model which have been reduced by $6000 to run out. Expect $29990 + on road pricing (for a few months anyway).
And VW will be Number one!
