2016 Renault Koleos successor spy photos

The replacement for the Renault Koleos has been spied out and about on public roads in Europe.

As we can see from this prototype, the Koleos' replacement will feature a version of the brand's new, bolder face, which includes a T-shaped grille with an oversized Renault diamond in the centre.

As with the Talisman sedan and wagon, this will be flanked by C-shaped headlights.

Under the skin, the Koleos' successor will use components from the Renault-Nissan Common Module Family and it's expected that the new SUV will share a lot in common with the Nissan X-Trail.

CarAdvice understands that the new crossover will be larger than today's Koleos, which measures just a shade over 4.5 metres in length.

The increased dimensions could allow the new car to be offered in a seven-seat configuration, and will provide the car with a point of difference over the Kadjar, which has a length of 4.45m, but isn't on the radar for Australian sales.

Like the Koleos, its replacement will also likely be built in South Korea by Renault Samsung, making exports to Australia more likely.

It's unknown at this stage whether the crossover seen here will continue with the Koleos name that debuted back in 2007. While it's possible that Renault will come up with a new nameplate, Jerome Stoll, an executive vice president at Renault, told CarAdvice last month that "launching new names is very easy on Powerpoint [as opposed to reality]".
