I consistently average 600km per tank from my GTI VI. I use shell 98. I’ve used BP as well and found it was below this on 3 occasion.

BP is probably the only mainstream fuel supplier which still offers 95RON.

Shell/Caltex start with E10, then 91 then 98 Premium. (No 95 on offer) Mobils 300 plus outlets will be taken over by Caltex and rebranded.

So the initiative to drop from 98 to 95 is very limited by finding a BP service station. This situation will only get worse if the proposed NSW Govt legislation of mandatory E10 fuel replacing 91RON by 2011 eventuates.

Yep. With the Subaru, it would cost more to go the same distance on a tank with 91 than with 98.

didnt they do a test on ‘today tonight’ with 3 cars lapping the sydney cbd and then a highway test, each car using a different fuel – 91,95,98. from memory 98 made the cars go further and when averaged out on the cost of fuel was about even with 91. 95 gave the worst ratio of distance/cost.

yay! but if i had one i’d still run it on 98 too. i wasat the suzuki dealer and and asked what fuel the swift sports runs on. they said unleaded, i said 98? they said you can but you don’t have to

LPG, I use BP 98. Always used that in the karts as well, except when we had to use control fuel and it was Optimax, then the karts ran like dogs too.

The Sirion GTVi in the family won’t run on Shell properly, so SWMBO used Mobil. Then Mobil was thought to be issuing dodgy fuel a few weeks ago, so she filled up with BP, and noticed the car running far smoother. That’s from a total non-car-tuned person….

Check the GTI forums, there’s a broad following for BP. Sadly, many people will use Coles/Woollies because they can’t resist the lure of a paltry 4c discount, I see them every week queuing out onto the road and waiting 30 mins to get 4c off.

Which 98 RON fuel do you recommend for the GTI? I own a chipped GTI V and it runs perfectly fine on Shell V Power 98 Ron.

If you consider 98 is 4 cents more than 95, on an average 70 litre tank of fuel, it will cost you $2.80 more!

Surely on a $70,000 car this would not make a huge difference on the pocket……

or maybe buy a car that can use 91,but works better on 95/98.maybe with a few more cylinders too,or a hairdryer.what happens to your warrenty if you use 91 and have a problem…
