Volvo V60 Cross Country pricing and specifications

The rough-and-tumble Volvo V60 Cross Country has landed in Australia in a single diesel-powered specification.

The high-riding, off-road-ready wagon – officially called the Volvo V60 Cross Country D4 Luxury – is priced at $63,375 plus on-road costs, making it $5600 more than the V60 D4 Luxury on which it’s based.

Compared with the regular V60 wagon, the Volvo V60 Cross Country boasts an additional 65mm of ground clearance, giving it an SUV-rivalling 201mm clearance in total. Front, side and rear skid plates and black plastic wheel arch extensions enhance its dirt road-traversing ability, while black grille inserts, mirror caps and window frames add to the tougher look.

The Cross Country gets a unique powertrain too, albeit an older one. Under the bonnet is a twin-turbocharged 2.4-litre five-cylinder diesel engine that produces 140kW at 4000rpm and 420Nm between 1500-3000rpm (the regular V60 gets a twin-turbo 140kW/400Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel).

Drive is channelled to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission (the standard V60 is front-drive and gets the new eight-speed auto), while hill descent control further heightens off-road driving ease.

The Cross Country accelerates from 0-100km/h in 8.9 seconds, consumes 5.8 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres on the combined cycle, and has a 1900kg braked towing capacity (100kg more than the V60).

Equipment-wise, the V60 Cross Country shares much with the V60 D4 Luxury. Standard specification highlights include bi-xenon headlamps and LED daytime running lights, reverse-view camera and rear parking sensors, 7.0-inch display screen with Sensus Navigation infotainment system, internet connectivity with in-car web apps, eight-speaker audio system, climate control, electric park brake, City Safety autonomous braking system, 40:20:40 split folding rear seats and rear seat booster cushions.

A $4000 Driver Support Package is available and adds blind spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, active high beam, forward collision warning, road sign information, adaptive cruise control with full auto brake, queue assist, pedestrian and cyclist detection, and auto-dimming rear-view and side mirrors.

Ten exterior colours are available, all in various shades of white, silver, grey, brown and black. The standard alloy wheels measure 18 inches, though customers can opt for 16s, 17s and 19s, depending on their preference.
