2016 Mitsubishi Lancer update revealed:: Australia confirmed and Ralliart dumped

Mitsubishi has taken the wraps off the 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer, debuting minor styling changes and extra specification.

On the market now for around seven years, the Mitsubishi Lancer is one of the oldest car in its segment, with Mitsubishi yet to confirm a replacement or significant facelift.

The single-frame front-end design has been changed for a divided grille with a new front splitter and 'C'-shaped LED daytime running lights, similar to the 2015 Mitsubishi ASX.

Changes also includes newly styled 16- and 18-inch alloy wheels and the addition of two new colours — Diamond White Pearl and Alloy Silver. The interior also benefits from a minor change to the entertainment unit software.

Mitsubishi has confirmed that Australia will get the updated Mitsubishi Lancer, but doesn't yet know the timing or specifications that will be available locally.

The Lancer range in Australia is currently supported by three sedan models (the ES Sport, LS and XLS Sedan) and one hatch (the GSR).

The Ralliart range includes the Ralliart Sedan, while the Evolution X range features the Evolution and Evolution MR.

Mitsubishi Australia will drop the Ralliart model from the Lancer range at the end of this year — this follows on from an announcement by Mitsubishi that the Evolution X will be the final Evolution model it produces.
