2016 Range Rover Evoque pricing and specifications

The 2016 Range Rover Evoque will reach Australian showrooms in November with a new diesel engine, expanded standard equipment levels, subtle design tweaks, new prices and a seriously simplified line-up.

The MY16 Evoque range includes just 14 variants, down from the whopping 46 offered in the MY15 range, with the local division discontinuing a number of the less popular three-door and manual variants. There’s now just two manuals available (there was previously 24) and just four three-doors (also previously 24).

The new line-up features four engine tunes (eD4, Td4 150, Td4 180, and Si4) and four equipment levels that mirror those offered in the larger Sport model (Pure, SE, HSE, and HSE Dynamic).

Prices at the lower end increase on average by a couple of thousand dollars (the entry model is up $2000 to $51,995 plus on-road costs) while prices come down at the top end where the flagship diesel and petrol models now cost $76,995 and $80,605 respectively.

The base Pure spec introduces a host of additional features to more than offset the price rise, gaining auto headlights and wipers, front and rear parking sensors, lane departure warning, autonomous emergency braking, and the InControl Touch infotainment system with 8.0-inch high-res touchscreen and satellite navigation, among other features.

The SE, HSE and HSE Dynamic trim levels also build on the MY15 variants they replace (see below for the full breakdown).

Though negligible in terms of sales, the price and fuel leader, the eD4 Pure 2WD manual, is now 14 per cent more fuel efficient, consuming 4.3 litres per 100 kilometres on the combined cycle. Despite the economy gain, its carryover 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine is no less powerful, continuing to produce 110kW and 380Nm.

In base Td4 150 spec, the new 2.0-litre four-cylinder ‘Ingenium’ diesel engine produces 110kW and 380Nm. Those outputs represent a 20Nm reduction compared with the 2.2-litre it replaces, though fuel use falls 16 per cent for the manual variant (4.8L/100km) and 15 per cent for the nine-speed automatic (5.1L/100km).

In high tD4 180 spec, the new engine produces 132kW and 430Nm, down 8kW but up 10Nm on the old 2.2-litre engine. Once again, fuel use falls 15 per cent for these models to 5.1L/100km.

There are no changes in performance or economy for the Si4’s 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol, which continues to produce 177kW, 340Nm and consume 7.8L/100km on the combined cycle.

New on the outside is a revised front bumper with slimline LED foglights, enlarged air intakes, and two new grille designs: the standard grille with two bold horizontal bars, and a hexagonal grille for HSE Dynamic models.

New LED daytime running lights create a signature look and also integrate the front indicators. Full LED headlamps are also now available optionally for the first time on any Land Rover model.

The bonnet vents previously only fitted to three-door models have been added to five-door HSE Dynamic models.

Four new alloy wheels designs and a new rear spoiler with a wider, slimmer LED brake light complete the exterior changes.

Inside, Evoque Pure and SE variants upgrade to the new InControl Touch infotainment system with 8.0-inch touchscreen, which pairs with a six-speaker audio system. HSE and HSE Dynamic variants get the high-grade InControl Touch Plus system with HDD navigation. A rear-seat entertainment package with a pair of 8.0-inch screens and wireless headphones, and 11- and 17-speaker Meridian audio systems headline the available options.

New seats, new door liners, a redesigned instrument cluster and new soft-touch materials are said to contribute to a fresh and more premium feel inside the cabin.

SE variants and above gain the All-Terrain Progress Control system first seen on the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models, while lane-keep assist and attention assist can be added optionally to expand the Evoque’s safety suite.
