Welcome to Australia, please set your watch back TEN YEARS.
Aussies and Americans have had a love affair with big engine cars for too long, and it was only when the cost of ownership got too high that we finally started looking at the alternatives. We have been our own worst enemy, because we keep buying them they keep building them. You want to know the future of motoring on the global scale then you need only look at Asian and European roads

If the Ford Fiesta 2010 sedan was already launched i'm sure Ford would have had a much larger share of the CARS program.

IMO now that the US govt own a majority of share in GM they should have reduced the maximum CARS rebate to $3500 for non American branded cars and keep the current $4,500 max for American branded cars.

Frenchie, Ford US are actually struggling with lack of supply of the models most sought after under CARS. Some dealers sold out of stock in the first week.

Toyota, on the other hand, had such massive stockpiles that they are now able to meet this artificially created demand.
Ditto GM.

They don't have much choice. 6 out of 8 Toyota car models sold in the US are under $22,000 dollars (including the Prius).

GM has one, Aveo (we know it as Holden Barina).

What amazes me is why Ford is not doing any better as they have five models under $22,000 US.

If everyone didnt realise, GM was only .2 of a percent behind Bland on wheels. That really shows backward progress from our freinds up north.
