2011 Infiniti M luxury sports sedan unveiled

Nissan's luxury car division is set to raise the stakes in the performance luxury sedan market by previewing its all-new 2011 Infiniti M at the 59th Annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

The reveal of the 2011 Infiniti M models was the world’s first ‘virtual only’ debut with no physical vehicle in attendance, instead showcased using a unique video mapping process.

The 2011 M models will be designated the Infiniti M56 and Infiniti M37 respectively, reflecting their more powerful, larger displacement engines.

Much like its Nissan 370Z cousin, the M37 receives a new 246kW 3.7-litre V6 engine in place of the previous 226kW 3.5-litre unit.

The range-topping M56 takes the place of the current M45 and receives a new 5.6-litre V8 engine which is rumoured to deliver well over 300kW.

This M56 flagship has European rivals from Audi, Mercedes-Benz and BMW set squarely in its sights, aiming to reclaim territory from fellow Japanese rival Lexus and its IS-F.

The new-generation M range is the first to be sold across all of Infiniti’s 32 markets around the world, including Western Europe which will receive a Renault-sourced performance V6 diesel in place of the M56.

The 2011 Infiniti M is scheduled to go on sale across the world starting from Spring 2010, making its official public debut later this year.
