2011 Infiniti M luxury sports sedan unveiled
August 17, 2009 by George Skentzos
Nissan’s luxury car division is set to raise the stakes in the performance luxury sedan market by previewing its all-new 2011 Infiniti M at the 59th Annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
The reveal of the 2011 Infiniti M models was the world’s first ‘virtual only’ debut with no physical vehicle in attendance, instead showcased using a unique video mapping process.
The 2011 M models will be designated the Infiniti M56 and Infiniti M37 respectively, reflecting their more powerful, larger displacement engines.
Much like its Nissan 370Z cousin, the M37 receives a new 246kW 3.7-litre V6 engine in place of the previous 226kW 3.5-litre unit.
The range-topping M56 takes the place of the current M45 and receives a new 5.6-litre V8 engine which is rumoured to deliver well over 300kW.
This M56 flagship has European rivals from Audi, Mercedes-Benz and BMW set squarely in its sights, aiming to reclaim territory from fellow Japanese rival Lexus and its IS-F.
The new-generation M range is the first to be sold across all of Infiniti’s 32 markets around the world, including Western Europe which will receive a Renault-sourced performance V6 diesel in place of the M56.
The 2011 Infiniti M is scheduled to go on sale across the world starting from Spring 2010, making its official public debut later this year.

Looks like a Hyundai.
I know its not true, but from those pics it looks really small – especially the wheelbase. Also, I get ALOT of Maxima from the styling, which is disappointing as this is more than twice the price…
Regardless, I really want to see Infiniti sold here. Especially the FX50, which is the best-looking SUV at the moment (in my opinion of course, but there isn’t much to compare too :S) and its sure to be a good drive. The G37’s engine sounds very, very good and the EX37 is an easy choice over an X3 (lol but anything is!). Infiniti would do well here – Lexus already do, and Infinitis are about a billion times nicer than any Lexus…they’re not tacky!
Exactly what I was going to say, “Shame it’s a riced up Elantra”
Looks over done and over styled
I keep thinking Hyundai as well, even the interior reminds me of Genesis
These are Nissan Fuga’s.
Top quality car. 1st Gen are on sale at all good local import shops.
JDM styling is slightly more conservative than those USDM pictures.
Youtube for Nissan V8 sound ;)
Yes please
Very nice car, the interior is streets ahead of its rivals, the only one as good is the new Jag XF
Nissan have been doing these since the mid 1990s so Hyundai have basically been copying them. It’s just that you guys have never seen any here.
That waterfall console with the LCD and the shelf buttons and the old style clock is a Nissan trademark.
I think it’s a quite good design with details that are light years ahead of Hyundai. Compare this to a Genesis V8 and you’ll see it’s like comparing a Swiss watch to a good Japanese watch.
And the engines… 246kW out of a V6 is pretty decent and what can one say about the VK56DE V8… it’s already a legend in motorsport circles.
Yeah, really sophisticated-looking and very sleek too.Love it.
Wasn’t Infiniti coming back to the aussie market?
Wonder what the V8 engine power/torque specs are, how do the V6’s go? Whenever I hear of V6 I just think Commodore and that isnt something you’d really want in something like this. The front really does have the old hyundai/Kia look about it, but the interior looks nice, really japanese, which is a good change. I like the rear end styling tho, looks nice
Interesting, sprinkle some GTR dust on it and Nissan can have a winner.
already looks dated
Yes Nobody, Infiniti is almost certainly coming to the Aussie market. But then again, so was Cadillac…
I think it looks good.I just cant under stand why nissan has been draging the chain in bringing some of there infinti models to us ,There got so many great cars and we always miss out,Even if thay just bring them here and call them nissans dont worry about the infinity bage .I just wont them to bring them here so we can have some great rear wheel drive cars
Def look hyundai
let’s be honest here… nissan australia are a small outpost that sells half a dozen 4wds and a few crappy hatches and some offcut sedans… and a supercar
they don’t have the trendiness of honda/mazda nor the apparent reliability of toyota
sure they have a massive fanbase who love the skylines and silvias but you can’t translate that to actual sales
last time they tried to introduce Infiniti they sold single digits… a year… who remembers the Q45?
Infiniti went big guns in the US and in Japan the never forgot their sporting past with the Skylines and Stageas
So those interesting Nissans in Japan and the US will never come here.
Skylines will never come here. They are more expensive than the 370z… which is already $70k here. They used to be Commodore rivals didn’t they?
If you really want one of these you can try the Japanese importers in a few years.
Why did they bother with the R35 GTR then Tony? I find it weird too!
If you have driven the latest Maxima, styling aside it is far from a “off cut sedan”. It has also toppled the mighty Toyota for quality.
Bring on the Infiniti FX35, it makes the RX350 look like…..um….. a Kluger!
Looks and all aside why dont Nissan introduce Infinti downunder to compete with FPV and HSV.
Gilly, I have two Skylines. I will say 1st I am not a great fan of the R35. I don’t know what you are asking?
Why they made the R35 in the 1st place or why they are selling it here?
The R35 is a big seller in the US, Japan and Europe. The old Skylines were huge successes even though they only sold in Japan. It would be an obvious profit centre with the hype generated over the years. I think Nissan have obvious skills in this area and whether I like it or not, the car pulls the numbers they said it would.
Why they brang it here? Obvious halo model. I remember it being front page of all the car mags and even people not interested in motor cars knows what the Nissan Skyline name means.
Does that mean that Nissan have any money or will to revive Infiniti or any of these $100k+ luxury sedans here?
Big fat NO.
I often wonder why CA gives so much column space to cars that will never come here. I have doubts anyone is truly interested in cars that will never been seen here.
