Nick Bracks – Drunken Car Accident

July 13, 2007 by Paul Maric

First it was the P.M’s son that was caught drink driving – Tim Howard. This time around, it’s the Victorian Premier’s son that has been caught drink driving. Nick Bracks not only drove while intoxicated – he blew .129; more than twice the legal limit and .129 more than the legal limit for provisional license holders – he also crashed his black Saab into a tree.

Luckily, only minor injuries were sustained during the crash that has left an embarrassed Premier Bracks lost for words.

Mr Bracks told the media today that “He’s been an absolute idiot,” referring to his son.

Nick Bracks, a 20-year old P-plater allegedly went into Melbourne City with friends, becoming intoxicated at a night club. He then allegedly caught public transport back home, where he took the black Saab out to go to the shops. Soon after leaving home at 4AM, Nick Bracks lost control of the early model Saab and hit a tree.

One of his passengers sustained a cut, but the situation could have been a lot worse.

Premier Bracks – away at Wye River – said that he felt helpless when his son telephoned him about the incident.

Mr Bracks said his son deserved to be punished with the full force of the law and won’t receive special treatment.

The accident happened at the corner of Melbourne Road and Hosking Street in Williamstown, Victoria.

I have friends whose lives have been shattered due to someone who drank then drove – straight into them. At least they survived.

Clearly there should be more severe penalties because the current ones are not sufficient deterrent.

Anyone who drinks then drives should be sent to prison for 12 months at least. No second chances. No getting off for any excuse. Or shot on the spot. That would be cheaper. And a fitting end for an IDIOT.

No amount of drinking is safe behind the wheel.

      I agree with you Matthew.

I feel for the innocent people that are affected by drink drivers.

I think that paramedics should refuse to assist drink drivers in the event of a serious accident ahead of innocent people. In fact, they should refuse to treat them all together, they are useless wastes of life.

This guy, is a real clown and in the interest of public safety (what if he T-boned a young mother with small kids driving a Proton Savvy?) should be banned from holding a license for several years at least. Of course, when he becomes eligible for another license, he would have to sit all exams and requirements as if a new diver. That means back to L plates etc!

Oh look he had a crash in a super powerful saab. Or was it the drunkiness that had more impact on him losing control. The premier needs to give his son a good ‘clip under ear hole’ as what my dad would say. Friggin knobs who think drinking is cool, jeez i know people who love getting trashed and invite me to go with them, then i say i gotta drive home ( in a bid not to look nerdy coz i dont want to get drunk).. and they go.. oh ok, watch us. Uncontrollable drinking is a bigger problem than p-plater deaths. Seeing ya mates drunk isnt a pretty site plus Drinking leads to problems later on in life ranging from liver problems to possible drinking addictions. I think there should be more focus on this than power to weight ratio issues bracks gov is dealing out.

Which moron at Car Advice identified the “late model Saab”? It’s very clearly a low-powered 900i circa 1988 that Bracks the younger probably bought with his Pizza Boys delivery money for two thousand bucks.

And whether that’s the case or not, he’s learned an early and valuable lesson about drink-driving. He’s very fortunate that nobody was killed or hurt more terribly.

That punishment is due, goes without saying. Once punished, let him be. Know what I’m saying? Wise head, young shoulders, all of that kinda stuff.

I dont think we should be concerned about the legal process, due process will occur.

The issue is not political perceptions

The issue is that someone partied, but can’t party with out getting smashed. These people are a public nuisance
they ARE sleep deprived & under the influence of alcohol they then get into a car(I dont care what kind)& hurt themselves & or someone close. This has happened to the son of a prominent person & he is therefore being publicly shamed.A far more severe consequence than is usual.Drinks with friends is great but if you can’t do it without becoming intoxicated or obnoxious then what is the problem?
The possible consequences of not being in control of yourself is worth thinking about.Control is compromised by fatigue, alcohol & speed(the more powerful the car the quicker you get to that out of control point,a walk throught the LANES MERCEDES panel shop was a revelation, all owned by people who think they are well above average)& dont forget attitude. Crash Avoidance Space.

Well, it surely wasn’t the moron who identified it as a 1988 Saab! ;-)

Young Bracks along with Malcolm Fraser are suffering from attention deficit disorder. It seems to strike the immature teenager and mature octogenarian.

he obviously drives no better then you type.
its no ‘mistake’ to drink and drive. its against the law and results in thousands of innocent deaths every year.
