New 2008 Ford Falcon Orion Computer Generated Pictures

July 13, 2007 by Alborz Fallah

The Herald sun have been hard at work over the last week, first it was the leaked photos of the new Series III Mitsubishi 380 Sedan, and now, the Herald has published photos of the new Ford Falcon:

v3

The Herald Sun claims that these computer generated images were disposed of after an FPV meeting, soon before being stumbled upon by an eager reader.

If this is true, the production version, which is set to hit showrooms early next year (probably in time for the Melbourne Motor Show – March), may very well be near identical to what you are seeing now.

Images show the GT and GT-P from Ford’s performance stable, FPV, along with images of the F6 Typhoon.

Comparing these to our spy photos of the Falcon GT, there is a very noticeable resemblance.

The computer generated images sourced by the Herald Sun show what is most probably an early design of the Orion. Our spy photos and sources indicate the upper models – such as the FPV GT-P (pictured) – will feature Xenon headlights, cross-drilled and slotted brakes, along with new wheels.

A stripe package will also probably remain for the Orion Falcon, considering the big uptake of the option on B-series FPV GTs and GT-Ps.

Ford Australia have declined to comment on the images, stating that they are simply pretty images and that we should all wait until the final product is released. One thing is for certain though, all the publicity is revving up fans of the blue oval marque.

    I am a lookin and I’m a likin!

  2. 280zx says:

Yep totally agree Blue Blood ! Like it alot!

  3. alborz says:

I think the VE Commodore is going to have a big big big fight on its hands. Ford have built this to kill the “1 billion dollar” VE Commodore, and I bet it cost 1/2 the price to make!

  4. Matt says:

I must admit, I am a Holden man but this looks AWESOME! Let’s hope it’s a winner for Ford.

  5. billy says:

Yeah it looks amazing but i wonder how the FPV F6 Typhoon will act if ford goes for the V6 engine from Europe. Also i hope they have touched up there V8 they are a long way off the Commodores V8.

  6. Bavarian Missile / says:

They found the pics at the TIP by a cars guide fan really, how lucks that!!!!!!

    Looks great .

    BIG wing looks interesting ?

Cars guide will have more pics tomorrow .Looking foreward to it!

  7. falcon says:

if (big if, i hope) they do go to v6, they might single or even twin turbo it like noble did with there performance cars.

The car looks stunning, makes holdens billion dollar baby look weak, lets hope ford have worked on there v8s, and have researched the audi v8s, and we smoke the holdens

  8. Lazybones says:

Not so sure about the black, looks a bit VE GTS to me. And then with white & black it looks like a panda!

I was expecting a bit more mondeo in the design, But overall the new shape looks pretty mean.

  9. smokin'R32 says:

I like the black plastic leading down from the headlights, resembles the R35 GTR Proto. This is a far edgier design than the camoflage mules let on, i just hope they ditch the GT stripes or go for something a bit more subtle, they cheapen the effect.

  10. Blue Blood says:

I hope they don’t go for a V6, the inline six is a fantastic engine.

However Ford has developed a V6 twin turbo for the Lincoln in US with 300+Kw and the new code named Hurricane V8 being developed in the US is rumoured to 6 or 7 litres but not due til 2009-10.

  11. Glen says:

Im not a big fan of the black plastic, but the overall package looks pretty darn good.

And no the GT stripes should stay but instead of stickers they should be painted on ala original GT’s, otherwise anyman and his dog can get stickers to put on XR’s and Fairmonts. But im very interested to see what this cobra is they’re about to announce. It’s intriguing

  12. Bavarian Missile / says:

I am unsure on the stripes, there an option anyway I thought, $800.00.

Colours will be interesting ? Lets hope they don’t ditch the popular ones like they did with the other earlier models. Why they did it I have no idea.

Blood orange was the most popular colour and they ditched it,for an orange with metalic in it,yuk!

As much as like subtle looking cars Ford will have to offer a hero looking car.

  13. Dingo says:

haaa… It looks GREAT. I think it looks awsome and i hope Ford has a blinder with it.

  14. VScommodore says:

Yep, i like the front and rear lights much better than the commodore, the ford 6-cylinder job will be much better than holdens dated version as well

  15. BOB says:

this car is SWEET. the tail lights are so good. these are much better pictures then the ones that wheels did. i do hope they keep the 4.0l i6 that is such a great engine.

  16. Cory says:

looks like they put the duel exhaust in the GT this time apart from the mags what is the difference between the GT and the GT-P

  17. Blue Blood says:

Remeber these are computer generated concepts so the finished product may still hold some surprises.

I have no doudt this was orchestrated by Ford for a response, is a late 2007 surprise launch possible, who knows?.

  18. Matt S. says:

WOW! Amazing stuff, to beat the brilliant (but now dated BA/BF), is something of a hard task, but they nailed it with this ripper, picture it next year wrapped in 888 racing’s Vodafone colour scheme! In V8 guise with some more herbs under the bonnet, which will happen, move over VE!

  19. johnno says:

No, apart from a slightly slimmer grill and slimmer tailights you can see where the BF series 2 comes into play. It looks as though even the xr series will have the standard falcon lights setup when the xr’s were ressessed. Also remember that Holden has near perfect front and rear weight distribution so there is no way ford can get the orion to equal or better that aspect using a platform designed for the 1998 AU Falcon. So that is where the $500,000 less invested will really show up. The AU will haunt ford for another decade it looks like because of the cost cutting in developing a all new update not a all new car.

  20. Damo says:

What is this billy guy on about. The outputs of Fors’d V8’s are basically the same of that of Holden’s new 6 litres (unless you get a Fairmont V8 or XT base ect.) but the XR8 is only 10kw off the mark, it is just substantially smaller and a lot more technologically advanced. But just so he knows, the Orion XR* is set to use the GT’s 290kw engine so Holden are in definite trouble. Just wait for the FPV, I’ve heard rumours of 325-335kw!

  21. falcon says:

Johnno the BA/BF is also based on the au falcon, and even now, the VE is only just beating the falcon in comparsions, so there is really nothing wrong with that platform, the only reason holden spent a billion dollars the VE is because opal had not developed the chassis, which underpin very commodore before the VE, and yet is only just the falcon right now, and still now the falcon is the better handling than VE by most car mags.

so with improvements with orion platform the falcon will equal or even beat the VE.

  22. Astro Boy says:

It will look like a whale shark in the rear vision mirror, like it will eat anything in front of it, just needs some bucked teeth like in the movie ‘Cars’… i wonder if the Force models will come back. I think all they need to do with the force models is paint the black plastic with body colour, remove the rear spoiler and wallah! a force 6 and 8. And imagine what the V8supercar will look like!!! And i love the rear end! i hope those are LED’s

  23. THE GT GREAT says:

OMG That is wicked! 2008 is going to be a great year for Ford I can just see it! Also remember that the SuperRoo is going to make a comeback as well. But I think it will be reserved for special edition models or something along those line. LOVE THE BLACK INSERTS!! This is designing!! GO FORD!!

(side issue: the Anti-spam word for my post was HSV!)

  24. JOEY C. says:

vodafone ford on front page of v8 supercar magazine now. looks nice.

  25. JOEY C. says:

go the new ford and lowndesey.

  26. Looks sick! Cant wait for better pics!

  27. Paul says:

The black plastic between the headlight and the foglight looks ummmmm stupid. Apart from that it looks good.

  28. acfsambo says:

    I like it.

I hope Ford keep the Barra L6 engine and add mabey a few more kw, maby just to 200 or 205. Also i hope the XR8 does get the current 290 Barra engine and the FPV GT’s get a 320+ engine. On the L6 topic, i dont think they will change it this time due to the overwhelming praise the engine gets. The only time they will change it is if the emissions laws get alot stricter beyond Ford ability to keep the engine within them, or if they are going to export to Europe (Unlikely).

  29. omn1potent says:

The New Falcon will need to make the 6 speed ZF transmission standard across the range (even E-GAS). Forget the 4 speed and 5 speed auto’s, keep the ZF. Get rid of the XT and make the Futura the base model called G6.

The New Falcon will need to make the E-GAS option across the range (XR6, XR6T, XR8 (yeap the eights as well), Ghia) and so forth. It would be ideal that the FPV’s also have E-GAS as an option (E-GAS FPV GT mmmm….. where do I sign)? How about a LPG-Electric hybrid Falcon?

The New Falcon should be easy to fix and maintain, engine bay to be large to work on it. Engine parts and bay, some important underpinnings (underneath car) should be metal, not plastic.

The New Falcon interior windows especially front and rear inside should be easy to clean.

The New Falcon requires improved reliability, quality, economy and performance.

The current Falcon range is tooooo expensive. They should include on road costs. Base to be $32990 drive away and the GT to be $59990 drive away, realignment is required.

A full size matching space should be standard. NO space savers.

All brakes should be upgraded, i.e. all FPV should have the 6 pot front and 4 pot rear bembo’s. Standard brakes are crap.

The GT HO should return as the flagship model, 300 for each model, like the phase 3 and Spartans, i.e. 300 BA, 300 BF and so forth.

Ford should look at the Holden seats, they are much better. The FPV GT-P seats are crap, cannot fit!

    How about a LPG-Electric hybrid Falcon? C’Mon?

Now if it looks like the spy pics and complies with my post, I’ll buy one. How much trade-in for my Corolla?

  30. Doc says:

Maybe it’s just me, but it looks like a BA/BF with droopy head and tail-lights. Sorry but I don’t see any inspiration in terms of design.

I realise Ford doesn’t have anywhere near the R&D budget of Holden, but still, not impressed in the slightest.

  31. Julian says:

    This looks very impressive.

I think it looks anti-droopy. I like the tail lights and front lights I think the only difference in design from these pics maybe VZ commodore style ridges going up the bonnet as seen in other camouflaged pics (these ridges may just be part of camo so I’m not sure).

I must disagree with Doc if this is a BA with droopy lights then a VE is a BA with flares… ‘uninspired’ design, I mean really. I’m sorry Doc but from these pics it would be very biased to say that this new model is not the aesthetic equal of VE. Both VE and Orion look very impressive and look similar to BA/BF but that’s not a bad thing.

  32. bob evans says:

love the design it has a hint of ba bf which is not a bad thing cos they still look better than the new commode i own a baxr6 & it is an impressive car to drive even though it is only the base model xr. if the new model is better it will be an awesome car on the road good luck ford kick gm’s ass.

  33. Jack says:

Looks Amazing. More finessed than direct rival. Has the Ford Family look in common with Mondeo, and yet ‘Australian’ written all over it. Great! I too hope they keep the inline 6. This would mean a lot to Geelong I am sure, and is still Australia’s best petrol motor (longevity, technology, balance, torque)

  34. Idiot Scanner says:

Of course it would cost half to build, when they aren’t designing a all new, and might i say brilliant car like holden did. But ford are simply building upon the shit box under that BF shell.

    Idiot Scanner!

  35. Bavarian Missile / says:

Thats the thing mate neither did Holden they just copied everyones designs.

    So whos the fool,Holden!!!!!!!!!!!

  36. Azza says:

That is hot! It is a lot better then what I was originally expecting. Don’t get me wrong anyone, I was expecting the new Falcon to look good. But this just goes above and beyond!
If this is what it looks like, I congratulate the design team at Ford.
Oh and another congratulations for the design team at Ford for not copying any other car models! I am talking about you Holden! This is Ford’s design! Stay away from it!

  37. Blue Blood says:

    Hey idiot scanner,
The VE cost so much to built (and most of it on marketing) because every other Commodore before it had Opel origins , just as the Astra is a Vauxhaul and the Barina and Viva are Daewoo’s.

Falcon on the other hand has been designed and manufactured in Australia for over thirty years.

Now I know most Holden supporters know this so why dont’t you IDIOT.S perhaps your scanner needs adjusting.

  38. Matthew says:

I have to say this car does not look to bad, i like the wheels the colour scheme and the stace. One thing that is quite obvious is the fact that this car is based on a BF chassis and is not a brand new design which is very disappointing. They should have followed Holdens lead an produced a band new car from the groung up. Although the shape is adequate at this stage i can see it will be dated very early. They have not produced a shape that is aggressive like the VE nor most likely will have the 50/50 weight distribution either. Don’t get me wrong it’s a nice car but Ford did not produce a very interesting shape. It’s quite bland really.

  39. Drac says:

I hope they do use the new all alloy 3.5l duratec V6. Would save some kg’s by replacing that iron block. As much as I like the I6 (and I do like it), the falcon needs to lose weight big time and that engine isnt helping.

The duratec 3.5l would be great though 198 kW and 339 Nm and that is on 87RON. Apparently hitting 224kw once they have direct injection in place.

They have a “Twinforce” twin-turbocharged version of the engine producing 321 kW and 542 Nm. I think that would be quite adequate for an F6 especially with the weight loss that would come from it.

Time to let the iron block go I think..

  40. h-man says:

its looks great cant wait for final production

  41. phil says:

It’s not at all bland and there’s no reason why it will date any quicker than Commodore or Aurion. Judging from the earlier comments they will sell more than enough to keep the Geelong plant going.

  42. Gleno says:

im a huge fan of the blue oval and all these people saying holden shouldnt have too much to worry about are pretty stupid. the reson ford makes falcon is to compete, much like holden make the commy and toyota the aurion. they all have to compete if ford re-released the AU the commy would still have to be worried because itll still take up a share of the market reguardless of the quality.

looks mean, and thats always a good thing. i think ford need to further distinguish the GT marque from the base model falcon, it seems unfair to the historic nameplate. as for the plastic inserts *cough emo cough* wayy too much eye makeup, tone it down maybe look at a different way to make it mean.

overall i like the direction of the new falcon even if some people are too blind to see the major progression from BF to this new model, just look at the commy VZ to VE was a billion dollar change, too bad all the design elements had already been tested on the VZ… square headlights, top of boot corner rear lights i mean apart from the hideous wheel arches and dive-into-the-ground slanting of the waitsline, it was nothing new.

    WOO RANT FINISHED

  43. wizzy says:

the back of this car looks perfect! it looks lik its from the aston martin and it works beautiful i love the look of the thing. but im wondering if there still gonna keep the dubble bulge headlights for the xr’s and the fpv models???

  44. bob evans says:

what the hell is idiot scanner looking at this page for anyway you are obviously a holden loving wanker are you worried that the new ford may be better?. well they are on a par at the moment and that’s comparing a 6yr old design from ford compared to the new ugly & copied from many designs dunnydore. football meat pies kangaroos & shitbox cars hasn’t been australian since 1987 the vl commode etc nissan 6cyl. vn buick v6 america. where as ford australia have kept basically the same 6cyl & evolved it over the years to match holdens best v8. not bad for a shit box ba your screen name matches you precisely.

  45. Norakism says:

“Ford have built this to kill the ‘1 billion dollar’ VE Commodore, and I bet it cost 1/2 the price to make!”

This new Falcon will cost cash-strapped Ford almost nothing. The changes are merely cosmetic unlike the new Commodore which was built from the ground up.

I think this looks better than the VE Commodore, although it is slightly similar. The back lights are a major improvement over the VE’s because they look more like the Aurion’s. The side is good. The front grille should be bigger. The front with all that mascara looks a lot like the concept hybrid Toyota sports car.

This is supposed to be the look of the FPVs. If the product differentiation we see in the Commodores is any indication of what we can see in the Falcons, expects the base model Falcons to look really bland and crap like the Omega does. You have to spend at least $50,000 on a Commodore (e.g. the Calais) to get a decent one.

  46. Sam™ says:

I EFFING LOVE IT!!!!! VERY NICE!

and the thing i love most about it is its ORIGINAL

unlike holdens piss poor efforts at trying to mimic audi and bmw styling.

  47. Ricardo says:

This Falcon is utterly beautiful. Dare I say it is better than the coming competition from China …. http://i62.photobucket.com/alb.....elyCar.jpg

  48. K-Dog says:

Damo if u think that 325kw is good, obviously u haven’t heard that HSV is bringing out a 385kw 7L 427 GTS.

  49. goog says:

hey azza. ford are the ones that cpy holden with every model.. this looks so much like the ve its not funny.. ford are crap, all they do is copy other car manafactuers so they can do a decent looking car.. and the hsv’s will kill the fpv’s still even if ford do bring out a 335kw motor. because ford v8s are piss weak.. The ve’s are the best car ever made in australia and it will be for a while yet

  50. Sam™ says:

so ummm, how many recalls did VE get in its first month again? oh yeah, ok *smacks head*

the fact that this looks like a VE is absolute joke, honestly are your eyes painted? this looks nothing like a VE. the VE stole all its design cues from audi and bmw. the chief designer at holden even had the audacity to say they had copied ideas from bmw and audi! hows that!

i find it laughable that the fords turbo I6 engine is comparable to HSV’s ancient american pushrod V8’s.

ford australia will kill holden in sales with its LPG variants.

theres even talk of a hydrogen model in the next fews years with top australian universities working with ford australia on a hydrogen engine.

    GOODBYE HOLDEN :)
