Johnny Herbert drives a Honda Civic Type R

If you’ve followed Formula One Television broadcasts for the last 20 years, then the name Johnny Herbert would be familiar to you.

The British born driver had three wins and seven podiums in Formula One, driving for the likes of Lotus, Benetton, and Sauber. While he wasn’t a superstar, he certainly held his own on the track with various teammates including Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barichello.

He also won the legendary Le Mans race in 1991 and in 2004, won the Le Mans Series championship driving an Audi R8 with Jamie Davies.

Herbert, 45, was always a popular and well liked driver, so its no surprise he has been asked to drive a Honda Civic Type R in the final three rounds of the super competitive British Touring Car Championship this year.

Driving the Civic for two-time BTCC champions, Team Dynamics, Herbert said,

“I will always go into every race as I have always done – if I can win then I will win. If I come fifth, I will analyse it and see where I can do better.

“It’s a pretty steep mountain to climb, but I am not there to make up the numbers”

With a podium finish or two, Herbert may end up with a more permanent seat in the Honda in 2010, at least that’s what he’ll be hoping for.
