Honda Civic Tourer Active Life concept unveiled

Aimed at people who still harbour dreams of winning the Tour de France, the Active Life concept transforms the Europe-only Honda Civic wagon into a support vehicle for avid cyclists.

The concept features a redesigned cargo area, which now incorporates a bike rack that's fit to carry to road bikes with the front wheels removed. The rack includes integrated retractable arms, which allow bikes to be hung out the back of the car.

Combined with a large light built into the inside of the tailgate, a extended shade area, an integrated air pump and a fold out bench, the concept has been designed to make bike maintenance and repairs easier.

Built into the walls of the trunk area are a toolbox, bottle holder, water tank, and front wheel holders.

On the outside, the Civc Tourer Active Life features a gradated blue and dark grey exterior. The blue theme is carried over to the concept's interior with blue seat piping, highlights, boot lighting and equipment holders.

The concept rides on 18-inch alloy wheels and feature a unique rear bumper. Atop the car's white roof is an aerodynamically shaped box that's been specially designed to house shoes, helmets and other riding accessories.

Honda says that the Active Life concept is powered by the company's new new Earth Dreams 1.6-litre turbo-diesel engine.

In June this year, a Civic wagon fitted with this engine claimed the Guinness World Record for "Lowest fuel consumption – all 24 contiguous EU countries (all cars)" when it averaged 2.82L/100km during a 13,498 kilometre journey across Europe over 25 days.
