People say SsangYongs have awful styling. The Sport ute's face is pretty compared to the monstrous grin on the Mazda. So they're finally offering a diesel wonder if it comes only with manual gearbox (not mentioned in the story), as with the 6 wagon. When will manufacturers get it through their heads that the majority of car buyers in this country want autos?

That is a bit harsh Gilly. I wouldn't call the MZR Disi engine lousy. It just doesn't really work well in that application (small engine, big, heavy car). I am sure for example if Subaru put a WRX engine in a Tribeca you would have a similar outcome. Every manufacturer stuffs up now and then by putting the wrong engine in the wrong car. Commodore 4 cyl anyone??!!! Having driven both of the MPS cars, in the right application the engine is anything BUT lousy. Plus making into Ward's Top Ten Engines in the World 3 years in a row must mean somthing...

Mazda make nice cars but this smiley front is not attractive. Seems like the designers have been watching one too many Pixar movies.

Glad to see buyers now have an option to that thirsty and lousy MZR engine. The lack of an auto with the diesel is a shortsight on Mazdas part! Lets hope the ride on the diesel is more complaint for a family hauler.
I really liked the CX7 until I drove one, handling and design aside the rough ride and engine was a let down on otherwise a great value package.

This annoys me because I thought the pre face-lifted CX 7 looked just about perfect. It was well proportioned, the lines were right, the windows were right, the lights were right and the front was right. Now they've changed the front and it doesn't look bad but it doesn't look as good and just what is the point in getting a face-lift if you come out looking worse?

Falcodore your assumption is correct. The 2.5 petrol model will be 2wd and come only in a 5 speed auto with fuel economy of 9.4l/100km

While the 2.2 turbo diesel producing 127kw/400nm will come in 6 speed manual only and consume 7.7l/100km

Whats the point of having turbo diesel, where only option is manual? Mazda need to come out with automatic transmission for the diesel.
