Jaguar F-Pace revealed: Image and video of company’s first crossover

The production Jaguar F-Pace crossover SUV has been revealed, sans disguise, 10 days before its world premiere at the Frankfurt motor show.

As the first crossover from the iconic 80-year old British/Indian brand, the Jaguar F-Pace represents a seismic shift in company philosophy.

Befitting its focus on dynamism, it will be an on-road-oriented car to rival the Porsche Macan, giving it an obvious point-of-difference next to the Land Rover Discovery Sport (Jaguar and Land Rover are two arms of the same company).

The UK-made F-Pace is based on Jaguar’s new modular architecture, meaning it shares much with the Jaguar XE sedan, which you can read all about here. The F-Pace will likely inherit the XE’s double-wishbone front suspension and integral link rear suspension.

To be built at Jaguar's new manufacturing plant at Solihull, the F-Pace will be offered with a range of engines, starting with four-cylinder turbo-petrol and turbo-diesels, the latter from JLR's new Ingenium range. There will also be a performance version with sporting additions and the group's familiar 250kW 3.0-litre supercharged V6.

We also know the F-Pace will incorporate chassis technology developed for the Jaguar F-Type sports car — notably the torque vectoring system and torque-on-demand all-wheel-drive system —as the brand targets “unmatched driver engagement and reward” from its first SUV.

The F-Pace is also the third all-new model to debut from Jaguar this year, behind said XE and its larger XF sedan sibling.

Business for Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is booming under Indian steward Tata, and multi-billion-pound investments from a few years ago are well and truly coming to fruition. By 2020, JLR wants Jaguar’s share of group-wide sales to triple, to 30 per cent overall.

As we reported recently, Jaguar Australia — which will potentially get the F-Pace around mid-2016 — expects the crossover SUV could be its top-seller ahead of the XE.

Jaguar recently released a video and image gallery of the F-Pace undergoing testing in extreme temperatures, ranging from minus 40 degrees Celsius in Sweden to 50 degrees Celsius in the United Arab Emirates.

We will bring you a whole array of technical information on the Jaguar F-Pace, and our verdict and the design and cabin, during the Frankfurt motor show.
