Video: HSV releases first E Series 2 teaser

By George Skentzos |

HSV is certainly hyping up its new E Series 2 range, having today released the first of what is sure to be many teaser videos.

As well as featuring some rather cryptic commentary, the short clip contains three equally cryptic images of a red GTS – that much is certain.

From what little information has been made available it is difficult to tell whether the car featured in the teaser is the current GTS or its successor.

At first glance nothing appears to have changed, although the convenient placement of the special effects in the first image suggests HSV has indeed adopted the G8-style vented bonnet.

Unfortunately this same image also debunks the idea of LED daytime running lights.

teaser-2

Encouragingly, the second image from the rear of the car also features wireframe graphics of the current model, perhaps as an indication that HSV has not yet teased its new models.

That is until you pay close attention to the final image of the side air vent, which quite obviously features an all-new double-spoke wheel design.

teaser-1

Whatever the case, HSV is certainly going about the reveal of its new range in the right way – let’s just hope it can live up to the hype.

  • Dude

oooooh LED lights… what a huge difference

  • Doug.

What the hell was I just watching???

  • Shane

I think the cars looks won’t be that different, probably won’t justify an upgrade from the 09 models really, a few kw here, a couple of changes there.

However if they do allow more custom accessories like track options, levels of suspension setups, interior and exterior options, wheel options etc it would make the experience much better and covered under warranty! Its something HSV and FPV should offer. Just imagine ordering a new GTS with race bucket seats, no rear seats, track suspension setup and wider track wheels, super car style wing, no aircon. Perfect track car that you can drive on the road and from the factory same with an FPV F6!

  • The Realist

Just wait a while and you’ll be able to get these for $5K to $10K off in price. Just speaking from what I’ve seen the past decade.

  • Mick

This may be a similar update to what Holden have just done, an engine and feature update rather than a panel change.
Probably some new wheels but HSV tend to do that on almost every major and minor update.

  • figo

what was this all abou??/realy nothing much there about the car.

  • http://zuboora.com.au Mohamad is right when he

    wow!! lol im seeing
    new wheels
    new front, rear bar maybe?
and maybe just maybe if im lucky 3 more kw to make it a hsv e 320??? keep playing with your old tech v8′s hsv….soon they will have to drop in the 7 litre too keep up with TECHNOLOGY that everyone else is using. and then when it fails, which it will, they will lokk too the states for a 7.3 litre or something stupid like that.

ITS NOT HOW BIG IT IS HSV… ITS HOW U USE IT :) lol

  • Masterchef

Fisher and Paykel called. They want their halogen cooktops back. They said stop stealing them and using them for tail lights.

  • Cargo

Big deal…..what size engine this time? 8litre? ROFLMAO

  • Steve

Looks like a bit of marketing self pleasure.
Wont be surprised if it has the same 7L V8 and TR6060 from the W427 and a few new pieces of tupperware stuck to the body and some rims copied off some aftermarketer for this thing.
I’ll eat my hat if they come out with a carbon fibre body or a dual clutch 8 speed or (god forbid) a less thirsty, maybe twin turboed smaller engine or something equally innovative but I don’t think I’ll be running out of head ware anytime soon.
Good on them for trying to create some excitement about stuff like this before big cars like this become illegal..

  • Big End

LOL Driven by technology……..with a pushrod 10 litre V8 ! I bet they put those bonnet scoops on this time……you know the ones……..the ones they took off the 1973 XB Falcons!! Thats HSV technology for ya……ROFLMAO

  • whatefa

*sob* *sob* It’s not fair that HSV make cars that people find appealing…Maybe if I make some lame posts about old tech and pushrods and excessive kilowatts of these lumpy Chevy V8′s I might feel better about myself and look like a big man in front of these other parrots
    *sniff*

  • Shak

Why o why does HSV insist on adding fugly plastic on to every model year update. It makes loyal fans such as myself cringe. C’mon HSV do something right like maybe a better interior or even a more economical engine. And anyone who bags HSV for using more than 6.0 litres is a real hypocrite. The worlds oldest automobile maker M-B uses a 6.2 (6.3 in AMG talk) liter V8 and no one seems to complain when they keep re-using it. HSV may be a bit behind, but if Clarkson likes what they make then its good for all of us.

  • Wheelnut®™

I’d just like to see [the Bodykit on] the Maloo ute look more like the VU HRT LE 427 “Concept” they had a couple of years ago.. that was cool

  • Ron Flat

    Wow, what a crock.

  • Acfsambo

Shak, the Merc 6.2(6.3) is a great engine and puts out a lot more power than the HSV 6 litre engine. Also provdes more torque, and probably more fuel efficiency as well.

  • lazybones

A TV Ad thats sooo sh*t its good. I though i was watching a trailer for Alien 5 :)

  • jon

I didn`t even bother watching, but I`m 100% sure I wouldn`t be missing much. Really aren`t HSV`s just Commodore Omega`s with leather and a bigger motor.

  • Ross R

Congratulations Jon,you have just taken out the dumbest thing said this week on CA.

Isnt that like saying a AMG Merc or an M5 are just Mercs/ BMWs with bigger engines ?

Yeah its that simple mate. You not viewing and posting showed your ignorance even more

  • HSV Engineer

Ross R, thank you for pointing out the basic facts to these uneducated morons. There is a far bigger difference between the HSV range and the Commodore Omega than just the engine. There is some serious engineering, research and development that is undertaken at HSV to really make our cars stand out from the basic Commodore range. For example, we fit different size wheels. We put in a different coloured strip of plastic in the dashboard. We also fit different badges. And that’s just a small sample!

  • Tomas79

    You are right Jon,
Just another Kmart Special Taxi, with go fast bits!!

  • Ross R

Oh look ,arrogance has joined you Jon,how quaint for you both.

Skip along girls and let the adults discuss cars.

  • swampdawg

Will such heavily depreciating vehicles survive the looming ‘double-dip’ recession, another credit crunch predicted and the unsustainable bailouts to hopeless companies, like GM.

Does the ‘E Series’ mean Ego?
I am sensing that sales (and eventual production) of $65K commodores is on shaky ground.

  • Frenchie

    Marketing self pleasure…LOL.
Think your right though, need to start adding carbon fibre to reduce weight, turbocharging, dual clutch.
Not dumb things like, extra 3kw, leds around headlights, or bigger/wider tyres. This is just adding trinkets to the cars.

  • whatefa

And yet, wasn’t last year a record year for HSV?
And I believe currently demand is outstripping supply of all Holden V8s.
That’s kind of at odds with the spin from certain contributors to this comments section, yes?

  • http://skyline The Salesman, whats $200Mill between friends?

K.Rudd just slipped the boys at Holden another $200mill of Australians tax money. You have to wonder how many times you can throw a lifeline to a sinking car maker who sells into a shrinking market in the hope we might be able to export V6 engines to Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East. What happened to the “Green Car” innovation fund? Oh, that’s right. Holden gave it to GM Daewoo for the Cruize. And Ford are now going to make the Focus in Thailand. I now have ZERO confidence in the future of Australian manufactures.

  • jon

Do I get a prize for The Dumbest Comment Of The Week?

  • jon

HSV, you put a different colour piece of plastic strip in the dash wow, how classy?LOL. For the money they charge I`d expect you to be pointing out more than badges, plastic strips and wheels. But I guess you can`t because they really are an Omega dressed up, the same poor quality dash, the same trims all dressed in budget leather. When did Holden ever do anything ground breaking in a car that made the rest of the world follow suit. Thats right never, they aren`t innovative or well engineered. So don`t go on about them being world class, because they are nothing more than DRESSED UP OMEGA`s, which someone else has engineered for them about 15yrs ago.

  • imugli

    Well THAT’S 1:31 I’ll never get back…

  • Yanzo

    worst add ever

  • Ross R

Salesman, yeah your right ,Government should have let 200,000 people lose their jobs.

Define world class Jon ? Skoda perhaps ?

  • jon

Is that you Wheelnut? I keep telling you I don`t own one.

  • Ross R

So Im not the only one thats sees you go on about Skoda then.

Enlighten us on what your “World Class” drive is then Jon

  • http://skyline The Salesman, whats $200Mill between friends?

    Ross R,

The government should invest in a sinking ship to save 200,000 jobs? How about Holden make a car in Australia, using Australian tools and ingenuity that sells in a popular market. Same outcome on the jobs front, and some…..

  • whatefa

Poor old Jon he hates Australia and everything designed or manufactured here…cultural cringe in action haha

  • whatefa

Salesman How is it that a sinking ship sells more vehicles than all bar Toymotor and has 2 vehicles in top ten, including the No1 seller

    please quantify your statement

  • http://skyline The Salesman, Save local industry

Holden import all but the Commodore from Korea/Thailand. The volume selling Commodore owes its success to government fleets. The domestic market has walked away from big engine cars in favor of medium sized fours.
Government and business fleet is moving to more cost effective, environmentally friendly options for many reasons including the up coming emission trading scheme. Holden, in all their wisdom, are going to continue with the six pot motor. Now to keep them afloat in the hope of exports we tip in another $200mill. IMO this is the definition of insanity.
I would rather see the money invested in a car that sells in a growing market, such as the medium sized four. Cruise could be the white knight that saves the employees who glue together Holden cars. If only they were already made here instead of Korea.

  • OMG

    reeeeeealy
’cause I can’t help but notice tons of VE SS and HSV cars on the road, and it was in the news that Holden can’t make enough V8s to satisfy demand…that seems strange to me if buyers were deserting large cars in droves?

In any case, Holden, being an actual business after all, should chase volume wherever it can be found, yes?
Therefore, why sneer at the company selling vehicles to fleets?

I hope Holden and Ford continue manufacturing in Australia, and i’m happy for taxpayer dollars to support either…anyone who wishes otherwise should pack up and p!$$ off on the first boat

“Salesman, yeah your right ,Government should have let 200,000 people lose their jobs.”

Exaggeration. Are you another pleb who believes the hyperbole? A few questions for you:

    - When will Holden be able to operate on its own?
    - When can tax payer assistance be turned off?
    - When will Holden make a profit?
    - Why do we pay amongst the highest wages in the group of OECD nations, yet our productivity is the worst?
    - Do you know how much more revenue international students generate than our manufacturing sector as a whole, let alone government motors? Do you want me to quote numbers? (Next time you see a chinese student remember to say thanks)
    - Do you want me to list all the safe Labor seats in VIC and SA that would be in jeapardy if the government turned off the tap?
    - Is your car green, pink or orange in colour?

Look forward to receiving some answers.

  • whatefa

    Realist,
I would *realistically* predict Holden to start turning a profit at the same time as Ford in this country, judging by how well our large cars are doing, not just in sales but by the commitment of the manufacturers to this segment, i.e introduction of new tech and innovation shown by both. Also introduction of the Cruze has been significant.
REALISTICALLY (you should try it) no-one cares about international students, maybe we should take a poll?
Let’s not get started on multi-culturalism ROFL

  • Tomas79

    Realist brilliantly said as always!!
You’ll also find that a lot of the Falcadore die hards on this site have a chip on the shoulder againts academics, or anyone with a uni-level education!!

Whatefa says “no-one cares about international students, maybe we should take a poll?”

I as an Australian Taxpayer care for them much more, then the local loss making manufacturers that i’m forced to subsidies!!! If they can’t make it on their own, let them perish… That is the natural order of things!! And let my money go towards more worthwille causes!!

  • http://carAdvice The Salesman

Holden are beating the same drum and expecting different results. When they get more of the same what do they do? Why beat it harder of course. I don’t mind My tax dollars going to help a company restructure itself to meet a market. Why invest for more of the same?

  • Tomas79

Frame at “1:00″ Illustrates how well HSV/Holden is put together!!

  • jon

Here, here The Realist and Tomas 79, fine words. Now with the Productivity Commission recommending the funding be turned off in 2015 and Tariffs reduced to 5% next year, I guess the end is near anyway. And with the Productivity Commission being severely burnt at the hands of Mitsubishi, they won`t be so accommodating this time.

  • Taffy

Jon-Tomas79: If/when the gummint stops funding/supporting the local car industry and/or reduces tariffs; it will also affect your Beloved Toyota as well you know.. not just Holden

If any of the local car manufacturers do close; Toyota could well be the first to go. Because the Camry/Aurion are being built in other countries.. They merely “duplicate” them at Altona.

I mean having more than one plant producing the same car is one of the things that contributed towards GMs financial problems

If Toyo-Oz built a car; that could become a valuable addition to Toyotas international line up [like the Commodore is to GM] then maybe things might be different…. However; that’s just my opinion

So now I await your response; which [as history has shown on this site] will be have your typical/usual personal insults etc

  • Tomas79

    Wheelnut,
You name changing coward, not everybody is a one-eyed brand fanatic!! Who cares if they stop producing the camry, they should bring the avenis which is a much better car!!

  • Bogan 2

Hey Mate, I don’t get the driven by INSTINCT bit? Is that a new Petrol mate? Mate, is instinct Premium or standard? Can I buy them with my supermarket voucher discounts?

Oh Mate, I get it mate, Instinct as in caveman, me Tarzan you Jane.. I like it mate, good video from HSV mate. Yeah, grouse mate!

Me and HSV mates are into me Tarzan, you Jane bit at the Pubs mate, the sheilas knows exactly what we mean mate, it’s a great pickup line mate.

I like the intelligence bit too mate, without HSV mentioning that, I didn’t know there was any in my HSV mate. Mate, what’s the IQ rating on this E2 mate if it’s got intelligence? I hope it’s got more IQ than mine mate, I don’t want to drive a stupid car mate.

About this E2 HSV that is driven by Instinct and intelligence, me HSV mates reckon this is still way too tame and soft. Mate, there’s not enough plastic and chrome on this!

Mate, Can I get a bigger spoiler? I want one bigger than the WRX and EVO riceboys mate….

Mate, I want high gloss chrome wheels mate, that’s just not shiny enough. Mate, I want an extra wheel chrome cover that spins backwards whilst my HSV rolls forward… cool mate.

Mate, can I have a Redback Spider lacquered ball on the gear lever? Chrome seatbacks please. Mate. Mate, I want thick plush wool coverings on the seats. Yeah… mate. The sheilas love that mate.

Mate, the bonet scoops are too small, yeah mate, the Riceboys will laugh at me if I drive this mate. Mate, I want a funny car/Nascar scoop with a KnightRider LED sweeping lights. Yeah, mate, that will be really cool.

Mate, can I get matching accessories like jackets with rear diffuser fins on the shoulder pads and a rear wing on the back? Mate, with Chrome arm sleeves… mate, that will be class… mate.

Oh mate, I want one with chequered plate look on the Dash mate. That’s tough mate, that’s me! mate.

    Way to go HSV! Mate…!

  • Tim

Yeah, you have to drive this thing by instinct…coz it handles like a boat. Instinct, not precision.

  • Bogan 2

Tim, you are very generous, I was thinking a Barge rather than boat.

I’ve seen the hideous pics of the E2 HSV on another thread. Plastic fantastic meets Transformer and catches Rice Fever.

  • Wheelnut®™

There you go again Tomas with your assumptions….

You think that that I am the only one who thinks that if/when Tariffs are reduced Toyota be the first to go?
You should know by now that there are a number of us on here who are rather “critical” of Toyota

However; I am merely trying to counter-balance the uninformed inaccurate comments on this site – in relation to Holden… which is what you claim to do in relation to Toyota isn’t it?

Not only that but it seems Taffy was right when he said your response would include insults…. you just can’t help yourself can you?

  • Tomas79

    No assumptions wheelnut,
It is pathetic that you and Bavarian Missile frequently resort to using different nicks!! But then again, having been shown up, and banned as many times as you guys been, I’m not suprissed!!

It’s even more pathetic when you refer to your self in 3rd person, just to backup your argument!!!

I believe Car Advice should ban on poster using multiple identities!!!

Also, please before you start dribbling your usual crap, educate yourself on the basic economic principles of supply and demand.

And since Toyota doesn’t produce anything of interest to me localy, I really don’t care whether they go or stay!!

  • Nemesis

Tomas Im sick of your bleating on this site ,grow up !

I watched you last weekend accuse another on this site of name change when it was obvious they were D!ngo.

You assume too much and support your accusations with fantasy.

It seems you have too much time on your hands son!

  • jon

Don`t worry Tomas79 there is an old saying “You Can’t Educate a F@cking Idiot and there seem to be quite a few on here. Blind patriotism generally breeds stupidity, racists and bigots.

  • Wheelnut®™

Tomas: there isn’t a Toyota produced in or available in Australia which particularly interests me either.

Yet unlike you [and others like you on this site.. who can't wait for Holden to close] even though I mightn’t like Toyota; I don’t actually want to see any of the local manufacturers leave Australia.

Because when one of them leaves; the local suppliers will increase their prices which will make it more expensive to make cars here and make it more tempting for them to leave as well.
Which will result in mass job losses in not just the auto industry but also your industry maybe even your job.

  • Tomas79

    Nemesis, new Id again??
    Nemesis says,
“I watched you last weekend accuse another on this site of name change when it was obvious they were D!ngo.”

BS, I know it was you!! Like i said, Caradvice should ban posters with multiple identities…. What else did you contribute to today??

    Wheelnut says
    “”
“Yet unlike you [and others like you on this site.. who can't wait for Holden to close] even though I mightn’t like Toyota; I don’t actually want to see any of the local manufacturers leave Australia”

So why did you buy a Japanese Made WRX instead??

    Wheelnut says
“Because when one of them leaves; the local suppliers will increase their prices which will make it more expensive to make cars here and make it more tempting for them to leave as well.
Which will result in mass job losses in not just the auto industry but also your industry maybe even your job.”

Wheelnut as I have said allready educate yourself on the basic economic principles of supply and demand.

If Holden disappears from Australia, Toyota and Ford will pick up the slack, since the present commodore customers (fleets) will still need to get their cars from somewhere!!
Thereby the manufactures instead of selling parts to Holden , will sell more parts to Fords and Toyota!!

And since Ford Falcons and Toyota Camries/Aurons contain more australian made content, it will actually be better for australia!!! Also removing the import tarrifs on cars won’t effect toyota as much, since toyota exports most of the cars it produces locally!! Making the largest exporter of Australian Made vehicles!!

Holden on the other hand is subsidies by us the taxpayer, and thanks us by selling the G8 significantly cheaper in the U.S, then we can get them locally!!

  • Wheelnut®™

Tomas: if [for example] a particular part of a car costs the local supplier $10 to make and that part is used by Toyota Holden and Ford then the supplier can cover the cost of production by charging each of the 3 local manufacturers $3.33 for each part

[I know they would most likely receive a discount but this is just an example]

Then if one of them was to leave the supplier would charge the remaining 2 manufacturers an increased price of $5 for each part.

That increase of $1.67 per part may be enough to make one of the remaining 2 decide to leave which would most likely mean the other one would leave as well as they would have to pay $10 per part.

The more customers you have and the more parts you sell the lower your cost per unit is – that is one of the basic principles of economics

That’s what plebs like you think. I could always quote revenues from international students against revenues from the automotive sector – but you don’t believe figures, only sensationalism.

If the government had to choose between international student revenue and Australian manufacturing… bye bye, GMH, Ford Oz and Toyota Oz.
