  1. Robin Graves says:

    Geez, Hyundai are doing alright.

  2. Falcodore says:

Could CA please supply a top 10 or 20 models as well. And if possible a breakdown of fleet/business versus private sales as well?

  3. Robin Graves says:

Great wall (274) – wow thats a lot more than SsangYong (54) Where is Mahindra?

  4. Fernando says:

Why Honda is struggling in Australia? Only no.9. In the US and Japan Honda sells much better than here. I can’t believe Honda is even beaten by Subaru which is a minor auto maker in Japan.

  5. DesignEng©™ says:

The whole market has crashed right back to the pre-KRudd tax incentive levels. How short lived was that?

  6. Fernando says:

Ssangyong is owned by Chinese (Shanghai motors.) So we may say Chinese sold 328 vehicles in Australian soil. OMG!! BTW it seems like Ssang Yong will be bankrupted soon.

  7. Kim Jong Il says:

So 50% of the top 4 manufacturers are now Korean. Interesting.

  8. Jo says:

Fernando, Honda are struggling because they have become irrelevant.

Overpriced, underpowered, uninspired cars. They were OK 5-6 years ago, but have lost the plot. The Accord Euro is OK, the rest are lame.

Whilst Hyundai/Kia go up, someone has to come down. Honda is the 1st casualty.

  9. OMG says:

    Kin Jong Il
    Yes, and one Thai importer!
    So that makes 100% asian

    Your point?

  10. KM says:

    Hats off for Hyundai…

I reckon if things continue the way they are, Hyundai will be knocking on Toyota’s door… Still a while to go, but we could see it happening.

  11. RiderX says:

Who could ever thought that Hyundai would close in Ford just five years ago? This goes to show that what a hero car like i30 could do to a car company.

Soon, in top ten there will be 2 or 3 Chinese cars – Great Wall selling over 200 is that in Australia (or anywhere else) if you can make cheap, reasonable good looking cars, they will sell.

Also in the similar line of thought I think Honda has miscalculated Australia market. Honda think that they can over-charge us and we will still be buying just because of their semi-luxury name. To make things even worse, most of their cars are made in Thailand! It goes to show that people are a lot smarter than they’ve been given credit for.

  12. Deco says:

Im surprised Jaguar are yet to claw away some makey share.

  13. Dlr1 says:

Skoda manages 74 sales… the clock is ticking… now long before VW or their current dealers pull the plug?

  14. kds says:

Dlr1, the Skoda dealership in Parramatta just shut up shop. That place was like a ghost town ever since it opened. I think they still had the original allocation of stock they had when they opened.

  15. crouchy says:

Wow, such a poor showing from Skoda. A shame since they really are a quality vehicle….

  16. Maneesh says:

Yeah Robin Graves, how many Mahindra Utes were sold in July? I doubt the number was 0!

  17. absi says:

i cant believe 274 Great wall motors?
or r these the dealer vechiles being registered?

  18. observer says:

    Dealer1 & KDS
I drive past the Skoda dealer in Concord (Sydney)reguraly and they seem to have the same stock as last year….they just moove the cars around.

With the facelifted Octavia released what chance do dealers have shifting the older model…Alarm bells should be ringing in head office.

  19. Jake02 says:

Robin Graves – I have no idea why, but Mahindra has NEVER supplied sales figures – I guess it’s because I’ve only seen one on the road. I’m guessing they’re not selling well…

    Dlr1 and Kds:
VW will never pull the pin on Skoda, they’re doing well for a new brand and better than last year. And I’d like to ask you twits as to why such comments aren’t aimed at Alfa, Saab and the like? Skoda Parra never sold because the people there were idiots (I’m serious – my dealership in Burwood is much better although not at servicing the car itself) from the Lincorp Auto Group (who sell Mitsu/Renault/Chrysler-Dodge (y) – Jeep all in a very small dealer). These figures have to be false – I’ve seen at least 20 in the last week alone…

  20. Tack says:

This list is based on just sales number right?
I really want to know profit based list.
One Lexus sales profit would be more than three times bigger than Hyundai/Kia. Same story with BMW, Audi, MB and as well…

If stick with number, personally I want to know the list of diesel sales.
How many people buy i30 diesel over Mazda 3?

  21. Jake02 says:

Robin Graves – Mahindra have never posted sales figures ever! I’ve only ever seen one on the road and I honestly drove abit quicker to get away from it…I would honestly believe less than 100 this year

I can’t see the problem with Skoda though. If Alfa/Saab can sell similar amounts of cars a month without pulling out then how can Skoda be rated so poorly here? VW is a money-making company (eg not Saab or Alfa) and they won’t give up that easily.

I got my car from Skoda in Concord and yes they have old stock, but the newer stock does come and go. Much better than stupid Skoda Parramatta (poor salesmen, tiny showroom and it was Lincorp Automotive who ran it – not Skoda Aus – who pack Renault/Dodge-Chrysler-Jeep/Mitsubishi into a not-huge space) who were there for a waaaay too little timeframe.

I don’t care about being called a Skoda-lover (it’s true because they are great cars and honestly, how much of an immature a*****e would you be to say that? Tim?) but it’s ridiculous expecting a new company to sell like hotcakes! It takes time!

  22. Jake02 says:

Oh crap the first one went through….oops :S
    I’m standing by both though…

  23. Delta says:

Tack – I don’t think you can get your hand on how much each brand make on each car sold. Those information is not available to the public. If you’re in business and you want to sell a set of alloy wheels, you wouldn’t let your customers know exactly how much profit you make on each set since they can use that information to push your price down. Logical stuff :D

Ford deserves to be at second place. Their cars are much better than Holden.

  24. Dlr1 says:

Jake02, 76 cars sold by 20 dealerships just doesn’t cut it. The same can be said for SAAB and Alfa too. Even the struggling Renault has managed double Skodas volume. How many dealers can justify the investment required to run a showroom and workshop on a volume of 4 cars per month? Especially since most of the Skoda models are mid price vehicles, not higher priced vehicles with bigger margins.

  25. Robin Graves says:

I was shocked at how many Great Walls sold – thats why I was curious where the Mahindra sales were as I’m surprised either would have sold more than 10 units.

  26. Frenchie says:

Surely ANCAP did ot need that many cars from GWM!

  27. Tack says:

    Hi Delta,

I totally agree with you and that’s the my point as well.
big volume seller companies are not always successful companies.
That’s include Australia’s big 3 Toyota, Holden and Ford.
    Quantity does not equal quality.

  28. New guy in town says:

    Tack.
I think you have your Point.
Quantity does not mean equal Quality.
It is not really mean Quality when Toyota selling NO 1.
Still Hyundai-Kia rank under Toyota but I have no doubt they have Quality as same as Toyota thesedays.
Beside, Hyundai-Kia is rank NO 3 in this figure.
    What a miracle!

  29. New guy in town says:

    Sorry, I calculated wrong.
Hyundai-kia is not NO 3 yet.

    3. Ford – 7783
    4. Hyundai-Kia – 7723

    But what a surprise anyway.

  30. OSU811 says:

Subaru doing very well, considering only really have two models available at the moment!(impreza, forester), as liberty/outback been in run out for a while and almost no stock left, and supply issues with tribeca/wrx. There numbers can only increase massively when new lib/out arrive and with release of exiga later in the year!!
and diesel outback, may even overtake nissan!!

  31. nothanks says:

I had a test drive in order to compare Sonata with Camry and Grandeur with Aurion….Sonata and Grandeur were much much better..I can not understand why many people buy Aurion and Camry over Grandeur and Sonata, even if they are more expensive, has less gear and has shorter warranty..

Corolla and I30? That’s same story…I30 is miles better. I bet that Hyundai will overtake Toyota soon..

  32. OzMPSclub says:

With Hyundai on the move with huge sales in the small and small/medium market, their vans outselling the opposition expect them to be higher next month…Mazda are holding ground with Year to day figures but there is 4 mths to go…and the new 3 is selling well its just supply issues.

Take all fleet sales out and just leave private sales in lets see how the standings would be then…

Considering that the Getz and the i130 have been selling well these to model will only increase in sales and if Hyundai tap the fleet market with a vengeance Ford will be next and then so on…

    Top Ten sellers (July)

    1 Toyota Corolla 3891
    2 Holden Commodore 3856
    3 Ford Falcon 2834
    4 Mazda3 2785
    5 Toyota HiLux 2563
    6 Hyundai Getz 2147
    7 Mitsubishi Lancer 2129
    8 Hyundai i30 2045
    9 Holden Cruze 1982
    10 Toyota Camry 1717

  33. Splatcat says:

Ford are probably in 2nd place. I wonder how many of the Holdens sold were actually sold to consumers and how many ofthe Holdens sold were sold by Holden to their dealers and classed as sales.

  34. Wheelnut®™ says:

Splatcat ,why would you think Holden would do that and Ford wouldnt.

  35. The Salesman says:

    Splatcat,

If Holden dealers were registering cars to bolster numbers the dealer would actually have to buy the car from the finance company. All “demos” (dealer registered cars) are wholly dealer owned. So you can see what you say makes absolutely no financial or logical sense.

  36. Splatcat says:

I was under the impression that Holden dealers do buy the cars from Holden thru the finance comapny.

  37. The Salesman says:

All car dealers finance their “floor plan” with a finance company. As soon as you register any car (Demo or retail) the finance company who underwrites their cars will want the invoice settled.
So in fact if a dealer was to register 20 Demo’s they would (the dealer) own the car.
In most cases dealer demos are more expensive to sell then new cars.

  38. observer says:

    Jake02
I’m pretty sure that most Fiat/Alfa showrooms operate from the same franchise dealer as opposed to Skoda/VW showrooms which are not within the same dealer so set up costs/service facility and return on investment is greater.

Nothing wrong for being passionate and proud about the brand of car you drive but is it really necessary to use offensive script gestures to make your point??….thats immature and who is “TIM”

I’m sure Skodas sales figures will improve when the Fabia and Yeti arrive eventually.
