Honda CR-Z facelift unveiled in Japan

The Honda CR-Z has gone under the surgeon's knife again, with the company debuting an updated vehicle overnight with a revised interior and exterior.

Up front, the CR-Z facelift features a new front fascia, with a more aggressive and sculpted grille and lower air dam, as well new all-LED headlights.

At the rear, the three-door hatch now wears an restyled rear bumper, which incorporates a winged rear diffuser element that mirrors the look of the car's front splitter. Honda has also widened the CR-Z's rear track by 10mm, giving the vehicle a more planted look.

The mild-hybrid drivetrain is untouched, meaning that the 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine and electric motor still produce a total of 97kW of power and 190Nm of torque. Buyers can elect to shift gears manually through a six-speed transmission or let a CVT handle all the ratio changing automatically.

New alloy wheels, in both 16- and 17-inch forms, are complemented by improved stopping power, which comes courtesy of larger discs, and upgraded callipers and mechanicals.

On the inside, the three-door hybrid has junked its mechanical parking brake in favour of an electronic version. While this may dissuade potential buyers who absolutely must do handbrake turns, it does liberate enough space to allow for the inclusion of a central console bin with armrest cover.

The revised CR-Z can also be had with both noise cancellation and engine noise amplification through the sound system.

As part of a rationalisation of Honda Australia's hybrid lineup, the CR-Z was axed from the Australian range earlier this year.

The sporty hybrid has also been discontinued in other markets, but soldiers on in Japan and the US. The updated CR-Z goes on sale in both these markets later this year.
