2016 Hyundai Elantra interior teased

The interior of the next-generation Hyundai Elantra has been teased ahead of its debut next month.

According to Hyundai Korea, the new Elantra — still known as the Avante in its homeland — is "scheduled to launch in early September".

This latest teaser sketch follows on from a series of renderings of the car's exterior, which were revealed last week. As we can see above, the new Elantra's interior features a much more sober design that seems to be heavily inspired by the recently launched Sonata.

The new Elantra will be fitted with electric steering as standard. Engine options will include a 1.6-litre petrol engine in both port- and direct-injection guises. As far as transmissions go, the next-gen Elantra will be available with at least a six-speed manual and an automated seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, although "additional options [will be] available".

Among the features that will be available on the new Elantra are blind spot monitoring, a knee bag to bring the total airbag count to seven, an 8-inch infotainment screen, and a proximity key that automatically unlocks the boot when the holder is nearby.
