Australia Only: Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Edition 63

By Matt Brogan |

Mercedes-AMG have today unveiled an Australian only version of its compact sledgehammer. Its name: the C 63 AMG – Edition 63.

To be sold in strictly limited numbers of, you guessed it, 63, this special edition is this latest masterpiece of handy-work from the cult firm’s own performance studio and offers a variety of enhancements over and above the standard C 63 AMG.

Starting with the car’s powertrain the Edition 63 will be powered by a 336kW version of Mercedes-Benz’s 6208cc V8 engine which has been developed entirely by AMG and is completely hand-built.

Developing an impressive 600Nm of torque the Edition 63 ensures a 0-100km/h time of 4.5 seconds for the sedan and 4.6 seconds for the estate with power transmitted via AMG’s speedshift 7G-TRONIC gearbox.

Ensuring maximum accelerative traction in the Edition 63 is AMG’s locking differential. Providing 40 per cent locking effect under load, this mechanical locking unit optimises rear grip when accelerating from each corner’s exit.

Race-derived handling is from the model’s proven three-link front suspension, specially designed for this AMG range-leader in the award-winning C-Class. Partnered with the marque’s multi-link rear suspension system the Edition 63’s ride ensures high levels of cornering grip with comfort.

DTM-style 19-inch alloy wheels provide not only sufficient brake cooling but unique styling. Not available on the standard C 63 AMG, these stunning multi-spoke wheels are painted in titanium grey with a high-sheen finish and wear high-performance tyres measuring 235/35 R19 on the front and 255/30 R19 on the rear.

Three designo paint colours are available, all exclusive to this limited-edition model, including Platinum Black, Allanite Grey and Mystic White.

Inside customers can select one of two unique upholstery colours in soft designo leather – designo sand or designo classic red. These tones are complemented by extended black leather appointments on the dashboard, which features a contrasting stitching in the upholstery colour. The door armrests and centre arm rest feature double-stitching.

Delivery will commence from December 1 with pricing from $169,900 for the sedan and $172,900 for the estate.

Nice car. The proper LSD should of been standard on this car not a $7000 option. The standard cars electronic diff is rubish by all accounts from the owners I’ve spoken to. They are all getting their cars retro fitted with the mechanical LSD now. Still don’t understand why Mercedes-Benz call it a 6.3 when it’s clearly a 6.2. Don’t the Gemans know how to round off correctly?

If you buy this and don’t track day it…your a fool!

  • Devil666

So does that mean they are now covering the plastic dash in leather? Because that would really make me happy. The odd textured plastic Benz has decided to put in the C63 was a bit of a joke.

    Mechanical LSD is a godsend!

Finally, a 255 rear? For 600NM of torque? Our Calais V is on 255/45 rear! No wonder this thing goes through rear tyres like lollipops! I hope this thing is capable of 275′s or something because that would probably be my first change.

PS: Anti spam Nissan, are CA hinting that a GTR would be a better purchase? :P

Thomas De Nardis, please don’t go calling anyone a fool if you can’t spell correctly.

Grammar aside, extremely cool car, still relatively understated. Oozes appeal in a very different way to the M3.

i sat in the standard c 63 amg. felt so good. i asked for a test drive, they dint’ let me :(

336kW from a handbuild 6.2l engine is a bit disappointing these days. 50kW down on the S-Class. For that money I could buy a FPV GT and pay the mortgage off.

Jess – German tax laws, 6202cc or something, must round up (therefore higher tax)

Thomas De Nardis – Part of the brilliance of this car is the engine, and it’s very easy to appreciate from light to light. I wouldn’t call someone that doesn’t track it a fool, just conservative. You do know how much a)fuel, b)rubber and c)oil they go through right? You’ll be using a couple of tanks of fuel at least, a new set of rear tires (sticky stuff, not cheap – nor are semi slicks) and a litre of oil.

Devil666 – Mechanical LSD was always an option. On the topic of tires, I believe these optional 19′s disappear faster than the 18′s (yes, track them and you’ll see canvas).

Stevothedevo – Drive one. Very, VERY different power delivery to anything else you’ll experience this side of $160K. Oh and it’s detuned so as to not steal the thunder from the E63 =) [Although, you can reflash the ECU for a couple of grand to match the rest of the 63 crew, or better still, put out about 410KW with better fuel economy].

I just wanted to point out that, all of these added “Australia only” features are all available over in the US (such as the leather and paint colours, everything else is available as an option here already).

How much was that HSV W427?

Performance/luxury car buy of the year.

yanzo, care to share how they rejected you??:P
bit pricy there,i cud buy myself a used/near new R8 for another 30k or so.and this is only C-class

  • John

Stevo. The 6.2L in the C63 is the same engine as the one’s fitted too the higher end AMG’s. They detuned it back from 380kw/630nm or so too 336kw/600nm because AMG felt in such a small car as the C class this was sufficient power and torque. They were right. Way ahead of it’s direct competition in power and torque! IMO!

    LONG LIVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH!!

  • Wheelnut®™

Exactly Davo…. But wait for the VE-2 GTS which will have 327Kw & it shouldn’t be that hard to extract an extra 9Kw!

Not to mention that the FPV GT gets 315Kw out of 5.4 litres.. So its not much for the Tri-Star fans to cheer about is it really?

FYI John the Engines in the HSVs and FPVs are also de-tuned somewhat

  • MB

However with an ECU flash and mild exhaust work they are achieving 332rwkw

This engine has got to be good enough to keep it ion front of F1′s and a medical car
