Infiniti Q30 revealed further ahead of Frankfurt motor show debut

As the Frankfurt motor show draws near, more and more carmakers are rolling out teasers to whet the appetite for a new model year. Key among them is the all-new 2016 Infiniti Q30, the Japanese luxury brand’s first compact offering.

Revealed in a leaked image in July and then again when it was spied during filming just days later, the Q30 has few secrets left up its sleeve, but these official shots offer a fresh new angle on the unique crossover’s styling.

As expected, the Q30 will enter the market as a quasi SUV, riding higher than the average hatch, but not quite high enough to be properly considered - by modern standards - a regular SUV.

The Q30’s proportions are mirrored in Infiniti’s marketing spin, which describes the new model as a “premium active compact” (is PAC the next new acronym to learn?) rather than a hatch or SUV.

Trainspotters will recognise the formula, with Citroen’s DS 4 hatch-slash-SUV built to a similar philosophy.

Infiniti, of course, expects the Q30 to be a “game changer”.

“It’s not a silver bullet that is going to change everything. It’s a good game changer in terms of volume and brand awareness… We are investing in the product, now it’s time for us to make it happen,” Infiniti Australia boss Jean-Philippe Roux told CarAdvice in July.

“Q30 is going to drive us more volume and brand awareness, but we are here for the long term so as more models are coming through we want to grow the volume, but success is not only measured by volume but also measured by network expansion and additional products coming through.”

The Q30 will make its global premiere at next month’s Frankfurt motor show, before landing in Australia sometime in 2016.
