2016 Kia Sportage caught without disguise – UPDATE 2, WITH CABIN SHOT

Another day, another revealing set of spy photos for the coming 2016 Kia Sportage SUV.

Yesterday, a glimpse of the new Sportage's rear - posted on WorldCarFans after being captured by a reader - came a day after Kia officially released a trio of radicalised teaser images.

Now, these latest shots of a dark metallic grey example reveal the new Sportage's face for the first time, just weeks out from its Frankfurt motor show debut.

As those earlier teaser images hinted, the 2016 Sportage wears a bold new face with high-mounted headlights, set back from Kia's broad 'tiger nose' grille and a pair of tall foglight bezels.

Through the centre, Kia’s (almost certainly larger) Sportage mid-sizer contender appears to sport a softer, rounder and evolutionary take on the current model’s design, with a lower beltline.

The chrome accents point to this being a top-spec version, likely a Platinum.

At the rear, a pair of slender dark-red tail lamps extend into the quarter panels above the wheel arches, joined through the centre by a chrome garnish and slim red band.

The new SUV's interior is still to be fully revealed, although the teasers suggest we can expect a cabin that shifts some way upmarket, and draws inspiration from the new Carnival, Sorento and Optima models.

A large display will dominate the centre of the dash, flanked by air-conditioning vents on either side and a clean series of switches and dials below.

Expect the latest in in-car connectivity just like its Hyundai Tucson sister, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

It is understood the new model will share much of its architecture and mechanical package with Hyundai’s newly-launched Tucson mid-sizer.

Likely engines include a 121W/203Nm 2.0 atmo petrol with six-speed manual or auto transmissions, a 130kW/265Nm 1.6 T-GDi turbo-petrol with an optional seven-speed dual-clutch auto and a 136kW/400Nm 2.0 R-Series diesel.

Front-drive and AWD will also be offered.

Watch for the new Sportage to make its global debut in Frankfurt next month, with Australian sales likely to begin early in 2016.
