The 6.2 in the Merc is justifiable actually.

And yes, displacement, is another way of extracting power. A clear comparison would be the M3 and the C63 which both put out around the 300KW mark. Having big displacement isn't necessarily a bad thing if the 63 is anything to go by, drive one and you'll understand why. It's power delivery for daily driving that makes the difference, from light to light not from corner to corner on a track, where it makes little difference.

It's one thing to have 300KW and 500Nm from a 5L V8, it's another to have it delivered to you by a 4.5L Turbo'd 6. The moment you touch the accelerator in 6th, instant power delivery. No delay.

The Realist - You know, AMG are cutting back, you don't even get the "AMG" floormats anymore =(

I bet these cars will come with the latest E2 floor mats which the Germans don't have!! Are they going to run another advert now: Australia 2 - Germany 0

Can't wait to buy HSV replicas from the local BP for $4.99

OMG - I know mate, I was playing along with you in the first paragraph, and in the second I was having a spray at the people criticising HSV based purely on displacement

A quite note to OMG – LOL how about AMG’s flagship motor LOL which has a displacement LOL of LOL 6.3 litres LOL which is LOL bigger LOL then the HSV LS3 motor !LOL LOL!

Seriously, no one says anything about AMG having a 6.3 litre motor, they previously used a supercharged 5.4 litre motor as their flagship motor but found that a larger displacement naturally aspirated motor was more pure and in keeping with the “feeling” they where trying to create in their cars. If its ok for AMG then why isn’t it ok for HSV? Now go away…

Schah7, go suck a blue oval lollipop.

The Germans will do whatever they want, so don't speak on their behalf. They don't like you.

Holden's new 3.0 V6 IS very 21st century! It is comparable to the 530i in power (both 190kw). Sure it is 15 or so nm down, but would you pay 3 times as much for 15nm?

More importantly, the 3.6 (not even in its full power state of tune) is the most powerful Aussie engine. Even with an extra 400cc the Ford isn't competitive. Sure it has more torque, but specific output per litre, or efficiency as you have been talking about above, it is less than the Holden. More power outright. More power per litre. More torque per litre.

Facts are facts, these engine updates combined with 6 speed standard trannies is VERY MUCH a 21st century upgrade (and about bloody time, Holden!)

Bavarian/M
The Germans wouldn't lower themselves to the level of putting one of "their" engines into a Holden.
Well if it did happen, that would "fix" the problem and finally put Holden [engine wise] into the 21st Century.
G.M has Daewoo to do that for them.LOL.!

Schah7 my bet will be when Holden start using BMW diesels in their cars you still wont buy one,so how about you just admit you dont like GM products and be done with it. Nothing to do with push rods, honed out bores or longer rods is it !

Bavarian Missle: Actually, the Russians did not use pencils in space. Their tendancy to splinter and release lead and wood chips into the weightless cabin deemed them too dangerous to the astronauts. I think they used crayons, just like the Americans, until an inventer designed the Space Pen, and sold them in the thousands to both countries for space use.
