2016 Suzuki Baleno teased

The Suzuki Baleno has been teased by the Japanese car maker ahead of its official debut at the Frankfurt motor show, which starts in the middle of September 2015.

Among the drivetrains available in the Baleno will be Suzuki's new 1.0-litre direct-injection turbocharged engine, dubbed Boostjet. No figures for power, torque or fuel economy have been released.

Aside from that tidbit, and the video (top) and side-on image (above), Suzuki hasn't offered too many concrete details about the new hatchback. More will naturally revealed at the Frankfurt show.

Except for some minor details, such as the head- and tail-light graphics, wing mirrors, door handles and alloy wheels, the new Baleno looks to be a dead ringer for the iK-2 concept car that was unveiled at the Geneva motor show earlier this year.

The iK-2 measures 4023mm long and 1.45m tall, and sits on a 2.52m wheelbase. It's also said to be 1.92 metres wide, although we suspect that this figure includes the car's wing mirrors.

In terms of its length, the iK-2 (and we suspect the Baleno too) sits between the 3.85m Swift and 4.3m S-Cross. As far as height goes, the iK-2 is 60mm and 125mm shorter, respectively, than the Swift and S-Cross.

The new Suzuki Baleno goes on sale in the UK from September 2016. Availability and any potential on-sale dates have yet to be confirmed by Suzuki's local distributors.
