Deals on wheels:: Discounted new cars

This isn’t a promotional campaign, just us trying to offer you some interesting suggestions if you’re in the market for some new wheels.

Kia Pro_Cee’d GT

The Kia Pro_Cee’d GT is one of our very favourite hot hatches, despite its minuscule sales. Call it one of the market’s best-kept secrets.

It technically has a list price of $29,990 plus on-road costs, which equates to a drive-away price of around $33,700. That’s why this deal of $29,990 drive-away is so strong — though we strongly suspect getting a sharp quote on one of these has never been hard.

For that you get a European-made coupe with a 150kW/265Nm turbo engine, a six-speed manual gearbox, an Australian-tuned chassis with poise and grace, Recaro seats, Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres and a rear-view camera.

Sweetening the pot is the 1.7 per cent finance deal on offer and the standard Kia seven-year warranty.

Please, if you’ve ever thought about one, take advantage of this deal. Because otherwise Kia might just stop selling it in Australia on account of low sales and we all miss out.

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

If you ever read our long-term-loan reports on the plug-in hybrid Mitsubishi Outlander, you’ll know it’s not a car bereft of flaws.

Nevertheless, credit has always been due to Mitsubishi, a conservative company trying something bold. The updated version nears, but in the meantime there are good deals to be had as MMAL presumably clears stocks.

The PHEV normally sells for $47,490, or about $51,600 drive-away. This makes the $44,990 drive-away deal the company is offering a circa-$7000 saving.

Volkswagen Amarok Highline

VW usually charges a list price of $52,490 plus on-roads (about $57K drive-away) for the Volkswagen Amarok TDI400 Highline 4x4 with its 132kW/400Nm 2.0 turbo-diesel and six-speed manual gearbox.

You can get one before haggling at the moment for $49,990, no doubt a gambit by VW to tempt private ute buyers waiting on a new Ford Ranger/Toyota HiLux/Mazda BT-50.

We actually spent some time in a TDI420 Highline this week as part of a ute comparison test, and were reminded of how car-like and refined the VW is. Only the value was criticised internally, but this is a way to counter that factor. Worth a look.

Hyundai Sonata Active

We really like the Sonata, as you can read on our reviews page here. It’s a classy mid-sizer with a great cabin and a comfortable demeanour.

Hyundai is waiving all on-road costs on the Active at the moment, meaning you can get into one for $29,990 drive-away — meaning you’ll save about $4000.

For that you get a family sedan with five-star safety, a 138kW/242Nm 2.4 petrol engine, 17-inch alloys, all the requisite connectivity, touchscreen audio, reversing camera and LED daytime running lights. Not too shabby.
