Jeep Cherokee recalled over power tailgate problem – UPDATE

Fiat Chrysler Australia has announced a recall for the 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee due to a problem with the power tailgate.

According to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's official site recalls.gov.au, the problem affects the Jeep Cherokee Longitude, Limited and Trailhawk models, as those variants are sold with a power-operated tailgate as standard.

The defect, according to the site, is that the "power liftgate control module on your vehicle may experience a corrosion induced high resistance short circuit in the power liftgate control module electrical connector(s)".

This could lead to "water intrusion and cause the module to become inoperative and/or cause a fire", according to the site.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Australia has confirmed that 7786 vehicles are involved in this recall action.

"FCA Australia is in the process of contacting each owner to ask them to arrange an inspection at their local dealer, where a technician will carry out any work required at no cost to the customer," a statement from the company read.
