2016 Toyota Prius filmed in San Francisco
The fourth-generation Toyota Prius hybrid has been filmed on the hilly streets of San Francisco ahead of a reported launch later this year.
The video above was found by user Priusfan500 and posted on the Prius Chat forums.
Although the car is clad in black camouflage from head to toe, we get to see the next-generation hybrid's front end in the flesh for the first time. We got our first glimpse of the car's derriere when a Prius prototype was photographed in Bangkok at the end of May.
Some details, such as the low-set Toyota badge, marry up with renderings which were published last month.
In this video we also have our first look at the new car's interior. As the screencaps (below) show, the fourth-generation Prius seems as though it will continue with a centrally mounted instrument panel.
Under the skin, the Prius is said to be one of the first models to utilise the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, which will endow the new car with a lower centre of gravity and possibly improved handling.
Despite reportedly growing 70mm in length and 25mm in height to 4.55 metres long and 1.77 metres tall, the fourth-generation Prius is expected to shed around 100 kilograms of weight.
A report last month indicated that Toyota's new flagship hybrid will have around 110kW of power at its disposal thanks to a hybrid drivetrain that once again features a 1.8-litre petrol engine at its heart. Fuel economy is expected to be improved by at least 10 percent.
Koei Saga, the man in charge of Toyota's drivetrain development, revealed last year that the next-generation Prius will be fitted with nickel-metal hydride batteries as standard, although high-spec versions will be come with lithium-ion batteries.
