As I have said the Mazda has done quite well up to now with their small cars, Would Mazda be able to maintain the sales momentum?

The strongest performer for Mazda is the Mazda3 in the small car segment with increasing competition from the New Corolla & the new Lancer (due in Oct). Mazda 6 used to dominate the medium car segment till the arrival of the new Camry. The camary seems to own the segment. There will be more pressure on Mazda 6 from the Holden Epica, Ford mondeo.

The 4x4 version of BT 50 is struggling against well established competitors like Hilux, Navara, Triton & Rodeo.

Over the last few years Mazda's sales have increased annualy with exciting moels and sharp pricing. The Mazda 3 would benefit if it attracted Government sales like the Corolla and with the new BT-50 receiving two awards last month this will help to move these great utes towards sale records.

As I said the Mazda sales will not significantly increase the market share, it will maintain a steady level. As I expected Mazda sales have increased in June compared to last June ( nearly every brand has increased), Mazda’s position in terms of number of units sold in June was number 5, Mazda has consistently maintained the number 4 spot in each monthly sales for most of the year.

http://www.autoindustries.com.au/sales.php/2007/06/sales.html

Coming back to each segment Mazda strongest performer is the Mazda 3 Coming second to the Toyota corolla. With the new corolla and the Lancer will due in October the Mazda3 will have a bit of a battle to hold on to the sales. Mazda 6 used to dominate the medium car segment until the arrival of the Camry. There could be more competition in this segment with the Holden Epica & the arrival of the Ford Mondeo. Mazda SUVs & UTEs haven’t traditionally been that poular.

May 2007 Sales (Position in the Segment)
Toyota Yaris 2389(1)
Mazda2 583(7)
Toyota Corolla 3558(1)
Mazda3 2758(2)
Toyota Camry 2027(1)
Mazda6 1022(2)
Toyota Rav4 1146(1)
Mazda CX-7 601(6)
Toyota Hilux 4x4 1955(1)
Mazda BT-50 4x4 409(7)
Toyota Hilux 4x2 1546(1)
Mazda BT-50 4x2 515(5)

Kenny: just under 7000 sales in June 07.

Steve: That's mostly because we're blind to the number of Corollas, Commodores, Falcons and Camrys on the road nowadays. The other part is that people who buy Mazdas (young professionals and students) are also more likely to drive more often, than the demographic who would buy Corollas.

I, for one, hope that Mazda really start taking off. In a blog on another site, Dingo made the point that Mazda don't have the same capacity as Toyota, but they'll probably be able to get similar sales if they wanted.

I doubt that, sales figures for Mazda will only get better, ATM Mazda only has two SUVs the very out of date Tribute and the CX-7. Plus their is an all new 6 due next year. The 6 is the best selling mid-size fully imported car and 1000 a month is pretty good.

I am bit puzzled by this article it doesn't mentioned the Mazda sales for June. Mazda cars are well built like any other Japanese manufactured cars. The reason they sell a lot of small care are because of good marketing, attractive styling for the younger crowd. Trying to make those cars cool etc.

The SUVs, UTEs & even the medium car Mazda6 is not doing that well. With new models from other manufactures Mazda will struggle to maintain the sales momentum.

Completey agree Steve Mazda is the top Japanese manufacturer. Strong focus on all parts of the market:
volume sellers- 2,3,6
SUVs- CX7/9
Sports- RX8, MX5, 3/6 MPS.
Plus the first japanese car maker to offer diesels into their passenger vehicles, manual only ATM, but still you can't complain about 105kw/360Nm.

Question:
What car do you see around every corner?

Answer:
Mazda 3.

I see these things everywhere. And the good bit about it is they are a brilliant car. I think Mazda is a top Japanese manufacturer.
