Sharing is Caring, Chev

After our very gracious export of the new Zeta platform to GM, it’s about time they returned the favour. Earlier this year at the Detroit Motor Show, speculation was aroused regarding whether the Chevrolet Camaro concept would ever see our shores. All notions of an export were neither confirmed nor denied in a manner which would make the CIA proud.
Since blockbuster release of Transformer’s in Australia, the concept’s exposure and popularity have grown from strength to strength with no sign of slowing. Powered by a familiar LS2 power plant, the car once dubbed as the new Monaro would fit in quite well with our own V8 brutes, whilst also filling the coupe gap left by the exit of the Monaro.

Although the car has not yet entered production, early versions are due by the end of 2008 and will go on sale in America during the first quarter of 2009.
GM tested the waters earlier this year when they show-cased the concept at the Melbourne Auto Show. Whether we will ever see it closer to home is yet to be revealed.

I’m not a big fan of the retro design fad that has swept US auto makers.
These classic design RIP OFFS show just how dried up the USA is on original ideas.
These plastic imitations have none of the soul that the originals had.
The biggest disappointment being the Mustang, a car when first conceived was cutting edge and inpired the “pony” cars that followed, hardly what I’d call todays examples.
hmm i think they will have a huge market appeal if they come, i think all handling, reliability, build quality apart, people will buy these regardless!
I am with you ,these cars appeal to a different market than “YOUR EVERY DAY DRIVER”
I just love the fact that if it comes, it should be here just in time for the end of my current lease on my Clubsport! Sign me up for one now…. I have a few years to talk the wife around ;-)
Just whatever you do, DON’T try to sell it as a Monaro – accept the fact that it is a Camaro, and call it as such.
The Camaro is based on the same Zeta platform as the VE Commodore. It will be built in Canada along with the next gen Monaro which will become the Pontiac GTO.
I expect that we will get the Monaro [around 2010]instead of the Camaro as the Monaro is a well known name here with its history as the Camaro is in the states. If we do get the Camaro as well it would probably be in fairly low numbers. because GM would want to meet demand in the USA first. whereas RHD Monaros could be made here.. like the previous
Commo-2-dore
In a way I hope Holden does import the Camaro as that could force Chrysler to import RHD versions of the new Challenger.
Instead of Camaro or Monaro how about naming it a SLR 6000 Torana…
