Mazda2 MPS?
July 5, 2007 by Alborz Fallah
Winding Road reports Mazda are all but finished working on a top of the range turbo-charged Mazda2. The Mazda2 MPS will be based on the new generation Mazda2 landing in Australia come October.

Powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0-litre engine, the new hot hatch is expected to take on Mitsubishi’s Ralliart Colt and the new Ford Fiesta XR4. The Mazda2 MPS is expected to have over 160kWs of power and sprint from 0-100km/hr in around 6 and abit seconds.
The Mazda2 MPS will ride on 17″ alloys while power goes through the front wheels coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox. Given its FWD setup, Mazda are likely to include a limited slip differential (LSD), traction and dynamic stability control as standard.
Having raided Ford’s parts bin, the Mazda 2 MPS may also feature Volvo sourced 320mm front brake discs.
We hold high hopes that Mazda Australia will the hot hatch here. We expect the Mazda 2 MPS to retail for around $28-29,000 AUD.

Now that’s what I’m talking about.
I hope that it’s as practical as the current outgoing 2. I recently test drove one and fell in love with it.
Cheers
Steve
Alotta fun to drive, but looks like a kia rio, yulleh
Might be quick but that car looks ugly… Mazda make great cars… I guess its the way all cars are going these days just look at the new WRX
if the mps version of the mazda 2 comes here and looks the part as well…sign me up!!!!
Bloody hell, that leaves a fair gap between the base model and the MPS (76kw and 160kw). What I’d like is a non-turbo Mazda 2 SP20, with the 118kw 2.0 litre from the MX5, and the 6sp manual too, preferably for around $25k.
This Mazda 2 MPS seems a little unlikely to me, someone from Mazda has recently said there have been no plans for an MPS, and if there were, it would likely be a 1.3 turbo (piss weak!).
Droooool, i am soo getting one, i was going to consider getting a suzuki sx4 but im going to wait and this hot car
This engine needs to be in the MX5.
i baught mazda 2 model 2009 cant wait to buy the mazda 2 mp please send it to lebanon beirut with all accessories :)
The more and more I see the Mazda the more I really like it the only thing is the whole petrol thing gets to me as the pumps in South Africa do not fit the car and one has to have a funnel handy
I just love this new generation Mazda 2 it hot and sporty, it big enough of a family and small enough for city driving and parking. The colors that it comes in are also fun.
PLZ PLZ PLZ PLZ PLZ PLZ MAZDA BRING THIS CAR HERE> 160 Kw going through the front wheels is amazing. We’ve all seen what Ford can do with an LSD (FOCUS RS)
