2008 Mitsubishi Galant Fortis Video

July 5, 2007 by Alborz Fallah

NipponDriver gives us a good look at next years Mitsubishi Lancer GSR, which has so far been labelled as a Galant Fortis.

The 2.0-litre turbo will fill in the gap between the Lancer VXR and the new Evolution X. Critics are calling it the new WRX killer.

looks good – there’s quite a lot of new Outlander inside the new lancer – but the shape is so much better than the new Impreza that sales should be huge.

I can’t help thinking that Subaru must have been trialling some new form of drug with their focus groups to come up with what they now have in the Impreza range. Do they honestly think anyone would buy a new Impreza over a new lancer? Maybe – management took the drug too!!

It’s a 2ltr turbo, and people are calling it a WRX killer hey? Hmm. Does it have AWD? There was talk about Mitsu bringing out an AWD Lancer – outside of the Evo model – but I can’t find much info about whether that became a fact or not.

of course its AWD, its the new Lancer GSR, the original WRX killer ;)

    Interesting,very Volvoish from the front.

Tell me are the EVOs as reliable as Scoobies Rex ? I have always thought Subaru is further up the food chain for quality than Mitsubishi.

  5. Damo says:

Pfft.. It’ll probably be more reliable, the engine is so over-engineered it would be dead easy for it to handle 170-190kw. DOn’t forget Mitsubishi make the best 4wd systems ever, and offer the best Australian warranty, so I don’t think there is anything to complain about.

  6. Drew1185 says:

Yeah i like them both, but im still a die-hard subaru fan. I like the new hatchback look of the new Subaru Wrx. You know subie’s got things up their sleeves to overpower new mitsu in upcoming models in 2009. its just a fact.

  7. Al Juraj says:

The Galant in the US is actually the 380 here, except that we don’t get MIVEC.

This Lancer definitely looks the business and with competitive performance and pricing, it should retain its top 10 spot. But please, no 4-speed auto alright?

  8. 08rexie says:

Yes Damo, the best Australian warranty… as good as a Hyunday. And 170kw should be the least it should make since the rex has 169kw factory. One more thing, look at how heavy that car looks lol. Very nice mitsu I’m sure you already know what evo IX fans are saying right? While subie worked on fuel economy while delivering more power at lower revs and making the car lighter, mitsu worked on aesthetics just like the gen 2 subies. Seems that Mitsu just made the same mistake subie did 6 years ago.

  9. Juraj says:

Interestingly, Subaru derives their new car designs from BMWs that aren’t exactly beautiful. The Impreza hatch as a lot of 1-Series in it, while the new Forester is hinting a great deal of X3 from the front doors all the way to the rear end.

Anyway, it’s quite strange to call that Mitsubishi a Galant while it’s known as Lancer just about everywhere else. They should actually build a sedan that will slot between the current Lancer and the outgoing 380, something like the Accord Euro being the medium sized car between the Civic and Accord Thai. Galant should be a perfect name, and if they can make it look and perform well, Mitsubishi should be able to re-establish themselves here despite the Adelaide plant closure.

  10. 08rexie says:

al juraj no 4 speed auto? Why would you want a turbo car with auto anyway? Even if it had 6 speeds. Just breaks the purpose… simply not as fun :)
