FPV releases new F6 E model

By Matt Brogan |

Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) today officially revealed the latest addition to their FG range, with the unveiling of the all-new F6 E.

Setting a new benchmark for luxury and performance, today’s launch of the F6 E ends months of public speculation of “will they or won’t they”.

Originally launched as a concept vehicle at the Melbourne International Motor Show earlier this year, the F6 E has been designed to satisfy calls from the market for more performance based executive vehicles.

“We launched this car at the Melbourne Motor Show as a concept vehicle and the expressions of interest in it have been enough to warrant us to go into a production run of the vehicle as a full-time addition to the range,” FPV General Manager Rod Barrett said.

“The F6 E will cater for the corner of the market – in particular executives – that want the performance and dynamics of the F6 with some added luxury appointments and subdued styling.

“Feedback from our customers leaves us confident that the F6 E will be a hit with those looking for something more from their performance vehicle,” he said.

The upper radiator and lower bumper grille mesh are finished in black chrome, while the front driving lamps are highlighted with a high chrome bezel and complemented by full body coloured bumpers.

The new FPV badge takes centre stage on both the front and rear of the vehicle and the new F6 E badge features on the rear and side panels.

Powered by the high performance 4.0-litre, turbocharged, DOHC, 24-valve, in-line six, the F6 E produces maximum power of 310kW at 5500rpm and maximum torque of 565Nm across the range from 1950 to 5200rpm.

It is mated exclusively to the ZF six-speed automatic transmission to return a fuel economy figure of 12.1L/100km.

F6 E also receives performance 355 x 32mm cross-drilled and ventilated front rotors with Brembo six-piston calipers and 330 x 28mm cross-drilled and ventilated rear rotors with Brembo four-piston caliper as standard.

It rides on FPV’s performance independent double wish bone front suspension and performance control independent rear suspension teamed up with the new Sachs mono-shock damper provides the perfect balance between a firm, dynamic sports performance feel and maintaining ride comfort while cruising.

In addition F6 E receives ESC, side curtain airbags and a reverse camera with sensors as additional standard safety equipment.

A fresh 19-inch wheel design was custom matched to the F6 E’s premium Brembo brake package and the Alpine Silver alloy finish completes an understated yet stylish exterior package.

F6 E is available in a subtle exterior palette of eight colours – Winter White, Silhouette, Lightning Strike, Velvet, Sensation, Steel, Ego, and Seduce.

Inside the cabin the F6 E features luxury FPV seats in charcoal shadow leather with the F6 E logo embossed on the headrests as well as dark walnut woodgrain finish on the dashboard as well as the doors.

The interior is packed with features to ensure a premium driving experience, including a sports leather steering wheel with cruise control and audio mounted switches, dual zone temperature control air conditioning, front and rear power windows, and memory adjustable pedals with alloy pedal controls.

Target pricing for the F6 E is expected at $78,190.

That is stunning! For the price of a Prado Grande you can have one of the best luxury performance cars on the road.

  • Mitch

How can you compare a prado to an F6 Falcon, completely different vehicles.

  • The Realist

“The interior is packed with features to ensure a premium driving experience, including a sports leather steering wheel with cruise control and audio mounted switches, dual zone temperature control air conditioning, front and rear power windows, and memory adjustable pedals with alloy pedal controls.”

Hmm… I can get all of this (and more) in cars costing $30K less, bar perhaps the memory adjustable pedals. Does the Ford still only have manual adjustment on the passenger’s seat? Are the steering wheel controls still un-illuminated? Does the smell of new leather fade away after a week like old FPVs? I notice there are still no xenons nor LEDs. I wouldn’t be surprised if heating and cooling seat functions were also not available like previous Fords. Does it have Satellite Navigation??

The executives I know own Maseratis and Porches etc. Or is there another type of executive??

Does the “E” stand for European? Why not an “A” for Australian?

    So many questions…

    • Azza

      “The Realist”
I think you should re-think your name, you truly expect to find all the luxury, sports and technology equipment you find in the F6 E, let alone the the FPV or even base Falcon range in a car worth $30,000 or less?

There is nothing wrong with this car, it has everything you could possibly want in a car of that caliber… you’re just nit picking and trying to pin point something out about this car that doesn’t exist… The steering wheel controls don’t need to be illuminated and shouldn’t be illuminated, as they are a distraction to the driver, Ford/FPV have grooves indented into the buttons so the driver is able to find the button they’re wanting to press without taking their eyes off of the road. Ford aren’t going to use LED’s in the Falcon model because they are too expensive to produce and too expensive for the owner to replace. That and Ford have used the reflectors in the lamps to their advantage, there really isn’t any difference between LED’s and tail lights the current model Falcon has apart from price. Xenon’s are illegal and car’s aren’t supposed to be given Australian compliance with them anymore…

Executive??? My boss is one of the highest level executives in Victoria… and he drives a Sitngray Corvette and an FPV F6 Typhoon R – Spec, but according to your stereotypical view he should be driving a Porsche or a Maserati…

Seriously, you need to find something better to do with your time… better yet, research some facts before spouting your mouth off.

  • Dude

Very nice indeed tho still prefer the GTE with the V8

  • Devil666

I’d take the Senator, MRC really floats my boat, and the steering is heaven.

I still can’t get over the interior on these FG’s…. Centre console makes me ill…

  • bobby

I wasnt comparing the cars, I was comparing the prices. Sorry if its a bad example, I have just come back from driving a Prado Grande which was garbage.

  • Big End

Devil666…..are you serious about the console? It is a great console design because it is actually useable! If this makes you sick what does the black slab of cheap plastic that is the VE interior do to you? Oh and the VE handbrake and console….has there ever been a worse interior than the VE?

The Realist….so what if there are no Xenon or whatever headlights!! The headlights on Falcons are so good why pay for something that is no advantage anyway? This car is way better than anything HSV can dish up…….they have no engine or transmission that is anywhere close to the I6 Turbo and ZF tranny combination…….period!!

  • Shak

Realist you read my mind. Although the engine may be heaven in a box the interior really doesnt strike me as innovative or really even very luxurious. My Accord Luxury has more niceties and looks better on the inside. Maybe if they included Sat nav and a sunroof like my $45 000 accord then itd be okay.

  • Shak

here comes the Holden Bashing. Why do we have to talk about Holden, this is a Ford Article, leave Holden out of it. Big End, Devil never mentioned the VE, and hes entitled to his opinion, he just doesnt like the console. End of story.

  • Marc

Looks great but hard to see the value over a G6E

  • Phill

These are a great alternative look to an F6,suble but still sporty, good one FPV.

  • Andrew M

    Realist,
I know you can get the features listed in vehicles 30K less in price.
You can actually get those same features in the XR which is 40K less in price.
The article neglects the things that are actually exclusive to FPV.

    Xenons and LED’s????
Well ford has proven they can design proper lights without resorting to slapping in more expensive bulbs, which when you think about it only made it more expensive to replace or repair if you have a whoopsie.
Not only on the FG, but the BF too was said to make Xenons uncalled for

  • Blaze

I’m not a big fan of the look of the coloured FPVs with the Panda-eyes, but this in dark/navy blue looks pretty good…subtle, I like it.

  • Frosty

With the imminant release of the E2 HSV range we will see how these FPV’s stack up against these new HSV’s that are going to feature at least 5 new innovations that are Australian firsts as well as more visual differences. The VE2 or VE MY10 is going to be announced tomorrow at 11am so we will see a bit of a idea tomorrow on what visual changes and the new motors are like. Bak to the FPV why have a FPV version of the G6E Turbo? It will only take sales away from each other. Its not really a competitor for the Senator or Senator Signature from HSV.

    • Azza

Yeah it really is a major competitor to the Senator and the Senator signature… Being that it is roughly $10,000 cheaper than the Senator, better fuel economy, a lighter body, more exclusives, is actually Australian Built and it goes faster… I’m pretty sure we should be looking at this the other way around… HSV have nothing on FPV… Once upon a time they did, but they’ve slid downhill in recent years, especially with the new HSV E2 range…
      “Shockwave”??? What a joke…

  • Frosty

Sorry for the double post, after I did the first post I got the message that the anti spam word was incorrect and to copy and then press the back button.

  • Jazrod

as much as a agree with the comments about the absence’s of Bi-Xenon lighting for the front, and LED lighting for the rear, i still think they add a nice touch of class/exclusivity.
Yeh, Ford make great Halogen lights, but if they want to produce a premium product, it needs premium touches.
    - Xenon & LED lights (including centre brake light)
    - electric passenger seat
    - sunroof (not even a factory option on any of the new falcons)
other than that, this car is stunning.

  • MeestaNob!

This model should never have been out of the line up in the first place.

Although Ford continue to be stubborn about adding in decent luxury headlamps/LED tail lights, the bloody least they could do is make both front seats electric.

I love this car, but $70K+ with so many ‘standard luxury spec’ items missing, don’t be ridiculous.

  • G6ETURBO

What is FPV thinking? No head up display or lane changing assit?
How are we suppose to know how fast we are travelling or when to change lanes?

  • STIG

YES FINALLY! an F6 without the hideous looking gothic eye patches. I’m sure I’ll be getting myself one of these :P great looking car, great performance, great value! FPV FTW!!!

  • jon

Just wait 12mths and buy it 2nd hand you will get it for half price.

  • Andrew

Definately worth releasing, filling a gapeing hole in the FPV range.

  • Shak

G6ETURBO are you being sarcastic, because when it comes to a Falcadore post you can never be too sure.

  • Angel

    lol

    $80k for a Falcon?

Like the manual tranny M5, these so called customers will become vapourware

  • DesignEng©™

    ^^ Angel (D1ngo),
let us know when you can scrape together the loan to pay $12K for your next secondhand camry!

  • philthy

What a great looking car.. and quick. Aussie cars have come a long way since the 90′s. I’d love one of these.

  • Lynchy

Great looking car, still missing a couple of extras but every manufacturer does that to allow for upgrade options.

The headlight arguments getting old, just because Euro cars use Xenon headlights it doesn’t make them a luxury item, performance is the main point and Ford headlights have out performed Xenons since the BA. LED tailights on the other hand would look good.

Be interesting to see what new things the VE II brings to the table, can’t see anything to dramatic. The new DI V6 will be where there biggest improvement will be as there current offerings are utter garbage.

  • Al Juraj

It’s the thinking man’s 5-Series, not as well built, but has stunning performance and striking presence at a fraction of the cost. I hope they introduce 4WD in the F6 range so the immense power can be handled even better and perhaps become a big bloke’s Evo.

  • jon

Your wish will be granted Al Juraj when the Taurus is imported as the Falcon in 2015.

  • Cam

what is the 0-100 i wonder?

  • Buck

The quitessential iron fist in a velvet glove.

Motor magazine August 2009 described the FG F6 as the greatest ever Aussie muscle car and its performance as “supersonic” so this will appeal to those who want their muscle car in a “tux”

Fair enough, I reckon, and it should be noted that those new ZF Sachs shocks are absolutly state of the art new technology and with the normal F6 already renowned as a very comfortable ride, this should be extremly comfortable and brutally fast when the occassion calls for it, (like blowing away anyone stupid enough to try to contest the issue, in their new VE2 HSV).

  • The Realist

    Al Juraj Says:

“It’s the thinking man’s 5-Series, not as well built, but has stunning performance and striking presence at a fraction of the cost.”

Take out the performance and a BMW 520d kills it in every area, and is not too far off in terms of price either.

“I hope they introduce 4WD in the F6 range so the immense power can be handled even better and perhaps become a big bloke’s Evo.”

How much more do you want Aussie tax payers to contribute??

Keep dreamin Charles/Jon/Will . The Falcon is staying ! All hail the F6

  • Serialpest

    Whats the MPG?

  • Serialpest

Its expensive, but i dont think costs anymore than the SAME THING from HSV.

    Needs to be $40k driveaway

  • jon

Not from what I have heard Ross R, but I guess time will tell.

  • Wheelnut®™

Serialpest says: It’s expensive, but i dont think costs anymore than the SAME THING from HSV.

Really…? then can you please tell us the name of the HSV [Turbo-charged] 6 Cylinder sedan?

  • Shak

Wheelnut The Senator would be its competition, but the performance would be slightly in favour of the F6E if the F6 is anything to go by. Ill have everyone know that i am a Holden/HSV man but i know a good car when i see one(F6), not this car although.

  • Andrew M

Are you really a holden person Shak???
I never would have picked it……

  • raveen69

FPV said recently that they will release 3 new models on the road before the end of the year. F6 E and GS, does anyone know what the third will be??????
