Audi Q6 EV concept leaked online

Images that are claimed to be of an Audi electric SUV concept that will debut at the Frankfurt motor show have been published online.

The computer renderings seen here were published by both Auto Bild and Auto Motor und Sport, and are said to come from a source within Audi.

According to Autocar, Frankfurt motor show concept car seen here is referred to internally as C-BEV and previews the look of the upcoming Q6 "coupe" SUV.

At the Audi's annual press conference earlier this year, Ulrich Hackenberg, Audi’s technical development chief, said that the luxury marque is planning to release a new “battery powered sports activity vehicle” in early 2018 with a “range of more than 500 kilometres”.

The new electric SUV's drivetrain is said to be based on the second-generation R8 e-tron. The build-to-order coupe features two electric motors powering the rear wheels. With a total output of 340kW of power and 920Nm of torque, the R8 e-tron is said to have a 0-100km/h time of 3.9 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 210km/h or 250km/h depending on the tyres fitted.

A 92kWh T-shaped lithium-ion battery pack runs down the middle of the electric R8 and provides a claimed 450km of range. With the aid of a fast charger, the R8 e-tron can be fully recharged in under two hours.

When Audi's electric SUV goes on sale, it will do battle with the Tesla Model X crossover, which is expected to go on sale in the US later this year.
