Aah Tomas - The car company [which we now know as] Skoda actually started off back in the late 1800s building bicycles and then motorcycles.

It wasn't until the late 1930s that they released their first car; the 1101.. at which time they were actually owned by Skoda works - a company which was more well known [in Czechoslovakia] for making weapons artilliery and other militaria..

Holden was also established in the late 1800s. They originally built horse drawn vehicles.. they then became motor body builders [using designs from the USA and Europe].
It wasn't until 1948 that Hodlen released their first car the FX.. at which time they were owned by GM and have been ever since

Therefore; there isn't that much difference between the two. I mean both companies have a reputation [in their home country] for building reliable cars
Not only that but looking at photographs of some of the Skodas from the 50-60s there are a number of similarities with Holdens from the same period

The only difference would be that soon after WWII Skoda Works seperated from Skoda Automotive; which meant Skoda became an "ORPHAN" and were left with relatively litte funds and resources to design and develop new cars.
That was until 1990 when the Czech Govt decided to sell Skoda to Volkswagen [instead of Renault]

Whereas Holden have remained part of the GM group and have been able to take advantage of their resources not to mention improving the look; the safety the performance and the build quality of their cars.

Anthhony,
Sorry Bavarian Missile, made typo changing your nick?!
How come you and wheelnut aren't using miniskip at the moment?
Yep, Skoda is much better built then holden, and will too be much longer around then Holden!!
Atleast Skoda made cars of it's own, before getting bought out by Volkswagen. Unlike Holden, which was making GM cars since day one!!

Charles.. if you really believe what you say; that is:
that a Skoda is better built than a Holden.. or,
that a Skoda will be around longer than a Holden..

then its you who believes in the Tooth Fairy and not Wheelnut

A Skoda is basically nothing more than a poor man's Volkswagen which is basically nothing more than a poor man's Porsche

Whereas a Holden is a Holden

Wheelnut®™ Says:

"Charles – believe it or not but Holden were actually on track to make a proit at the beginning or the year."

Were they? After five years of losses? Where is the official statement to show this incredible feat??

Yeah but Wheelnut at least a Skoda is a better built car than a Commodore and if you believe that Holden was on track to make a profit you obviously believe the tooth fairy is real to. But for the record I don`t own a Skoda but I`d have one over an ugly green Commodore ute any day and anything from GM for that matter. I mean atleast the Skoda will be around longer than Holden.
