2016 Audi A4 Allroad spied ahead of possible Geneva motor show debut
Audi’s new Q1 compact SUV isn’t the company’s only next-generation model out touring highways, with the coming new 2016 A4 Allroad crossover spied testing this week.
The appearance of this camouflaged prototype comes just weeks after the unveiling of the all-new 2016 A4 sedan and Avant wagon, which debuted online in June ahead of a world premiere at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
That earlier unveiling means there’s also little left to the imagination with this spied wagon, which will undoubtedly wear the same evolutionary styling features of its new A4 siblings.
Of course, as an Allroad model, we can expect the new high-riding A4 to wear unique bumpers and skid plates at both ends, along with durable cladding to the wheel arches and lower edges.
Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system will also come as standard kit, adding credence to the Allroad’s position as a crossover SUV.
This new-generation A4 Allroad could find itself facing a new challenger in the years ahead, with hints that Mercedes-Benz is considering a jacked-up version of its new C-Class Estate.
Speaking with CarAdvice this week, Mercedes-Benz executive said that he can see room in the line-up for an A4 Allroad rival.
“Now we are across the SUV line-up, limousines and these coupes (such as the imminent GLC Coupe crossover derivative), is there a niche for… these kind of vehicles? I think so,” Weber said.
The A4 Allroad could be on track to debut later this year, but a premiere at March’s Geneva Motor Show may be more likely.
As for the potential for a high-riding C-Class wagon, we wouldn’t expect to see such a model before 2017, likely later.
