Leather-clad Fiat 500 unveiled

A one-off leather-covered special edition Fiat 500 has been unveiled and has be sold at auction, raising funds to promote human rights programmes.

This unique Fiat 500 convertible features a white body overlaid with leather crafted by Stefano Conticelli, a tailor and luxury accessories craftsman from Umbria, Italy.

The honey-gold calfskin used on this one-of-a-kind is said to have been specially treated to withstand the rigours of being affixed to their outside of a vehicle.

The leather has been applied to the car's wheel arches, tail-lights, headlights, driving lights, sills, bonnet and shoulder line.

Attached to the tailgate is a handcrafted picnic basket constructed from the same calfskin leather. The car's wing mirrors have caps that are fashioned from mahogany wood.

According to Fiat, the colour of the Conticelli's work and the sky blue highlights surrounding the leather patches are meant to be a tribute to Riva yachts.

This uniquely leather-clad convertible is actually the first production version of the facelifted Fiat 500 to roll out the factory. The car is said to be a Lounge-spec model that's powered by Fiat's 51kW/102Nm 1.2-litre engine.

The one-off 500 convertible has been auctioned at the first annual I Defend Gala held by the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Europe foundation.
