Toyota has revealed further equipment details on its all-new 2016 HiLux this week, along with new photos of the Australian model’s interior.
These shots follow the earlier release of an interior view specific to the Thai market, but, as expected, Australia’s new HiLux will boast a largely identical interior to the already premium look shown with the new ute’s unveiling in May.
Toyota describes the new HiLux’s cabin as an SUV-like space, highlighting the growing popularity of high-riding utilities – dual-cab models in particular – as an all-rounder option for work and family duties alike.
Standard features across the range will include air-conditioning, cruise control, headlamp levelling, 12-volt accessory socket, intermittent wipers, a centre console box and power operation for the windows, mirrors and door locks.
Standard safety kit will include seven airbags, stability and traction control, anti-skid brakes and an emergency stop signal.
All tubbed ‘pickup’ models will feature a reversing camera, while cab-chassis buyers will have the option of a camera accessory.
Seatbelt reminders are standard for the front seats of all models, and are also included with the rear seats in double-cab models.
All double-cab models also feature a pair of top tether anchors and ISOFIX attachment points in the rear, boosting the HiLux’s appeal as a childseat-friendly family option.
Seat-height adjustment and tilt/telescopic steering will also be standard across the range.
Shown in these new photos is the top-shelf SR5 model, which will boast a seven-inch touch screen in the dash and a 4.2 inch display in the instrument cluster.
Optional leather-trimmed seats and a power-adjustable driver’s seat are also shown here, in place of the standard ‘high-grade’ fabric seats that will feature in the SR5 (and one-step-down SR) as standard.
Other up-spec features packed into the SR5 include digital radio and satellite navigation, along with the Toyota Link connectivity suite that adds access to Pandora internet radio (via the user’s phone), along with help to find fuel, destinations, weather and other assistance.
The destination function is part of the paid Destination Assist system, which, for $2.07 per use, allows the user to speak with an operator and then have details sent to the vehicle’s infotainment display.
The SR5 also gets keyless smart entry and start, climate control, ‘premium’ steering wheel and shift knob, an upgraded instrument cluster with light blue illumination, automatic headlight levelling, an alarm, and silver highlights through the cabin.
SR5 extra-cab models are fitted with four speakers, while double-cab SR5 variants get a six-speaker arrangement.
Further down the range, the WorkMate variant gets a 6.1 inch touch display in the dash which offers a reversing-camera view in tubbed pickup models, along with control of the audio system that includes AM/FM radio, CD player, aux/USB inputs and Bluetooth connectivity.
Seats in the trade-focused WorkMate models will be trimmed with a hard-wearing black fabric, while the floors are covered in vinyl. Upgrading to the SR and SR5 models adds carpeted floors.
The SR and SR5 also gain an air-conditioned dash box that can heat or cool two 600mm bottles.
Toyota promises increased legroom in the rear of extra- and double-cab models, while the SR and SR5 models get 60/40 split-folding rear seats and a stowable armrest for additional flexibility in seating and interior storage.
Every HiLux 4×4 is fitted with an electronic transfer-case dial while SR and SR5 versions are equipped with a rear differential lock for added off-road traction.
The 2016 Toyota HiLux goes on sale in Australia in October. The range will include 31 variants, with the choice of two petrol and two diesel engines, six-speed manual and automatic transmissions, regular and Hi-Rider bodies, 4×2 and 4×4 drive layouts, three body styles, and three equipment levels.
