Kia releases first pics of VG sedan

By Matt Brogan |

Kia Motors has today released the first images of its new premium sedan due to go on sale in Korea at the end of the year.

The new model, currently known by its code name VG, was shown in concept form at the Seoul Motor Show earlier this year and is set to replace the existing Opirus model in Korean, North American and European markets.

“VG clearly demonstrates the next stage in Kia’s design evolution and showcases our new design principle of ‘sophistication by simplicity’,”commented Hyoung Keun Lee, Senior Executive Vice President and COO of International Business Division at Kia Motors Corporation.

“The exterior is a seamless blend of powerful front, sleek profile and sophisticated but simple rear lines to create an elegant and luxurious appearance.”

There is as yet no set timing for Australian distribution of this model.

  • NacaYoda

    Wow. It is beautiful!
I wonder how the final product will compare.
It will be interesting to see engine options and pricing.

  • Captain Mainwaring

Watch out Japan, these guys are going to run you over.
Kia is the new Honda, Hyundai is the new Toyota.

  • crouchy

    Insignia anyone???

  • alex

Looks fantastic! Kia are finately on a roll… Just need to fix those engines

  • Simon

Some fine lines there, now if they can only do something with that ugly Kia badge…………….

  • Philthy

Well I can see the Audi influences in that. Even the ‘sophistication by simplicity’ thing sounds very Audi-esque. Looks nice.

  • Alan

Looks good. Good that they have really reinvented the brand image and made their cars better looking, wonder what the interior will be like though. Both Cerato and Soul looks good on the outside, but both has horrible interior design/quality.

  • absi

tht is a good looking car….

hope the japanese are shaking in their boots! lol

i do agree with the Kia badge comment … couldnt they make make it look like a fancy “k” or something or perhaps not “k” tht will remind me of Kellogs

  • Love GT-R

Front looks like Ford kinetic and tail looks like Audi.

  • HAL

Wonder if it will look anything like this at production?

  • http://Mini Ben Larden

What a gorgeous looking car! This is what the new Subaru Loberty should have looked like!

  • http://Caradvice.com.au Baddass

I saw the real life version of this car and it looked fantastic.

  • The Realist

    Quite attractive indeed.

So how come our Aussie tax payer dollars get us aging designs like the latest rep mobiles from Tax Payer funded motors?

  • crouchy

    Insignia?

please remember that this is a concept… look at the similarities with the lights and grille…

By the way, im only referring to the front end..

  • Brett

Hmmm looks like a great looking next commodore!

  • Fernando

I seems like Peter Schreyer is doing his job well. I think Nissan should hire a designer like him. Nissan Tiida is a disaster.

  • Harley Stone

    looks like a FORD

  • Alex

Alex, what’s wrong with the engines? And unless you are yet another Alex, stop using my name.

  • Jazrod

love it. i can see a lot of Lexus influence though. especially with the windowns, very IS-Esque. and the tail-gate.

    still nice (y)

  • OMG

Yeah Brett you can laugh at it from behind the wheel of your new Taurus XR4 with the big block 2.0 ROFL

  • Rym

A bit of a Passat and A4 in the back and an Insignia at the front and side.

Shame Subaru has lost the plot in this midsize market when it comes to style.

Give it a few more years before Kia/Hyundai matches Japanese quality and engineering substance. At the moment, flashy cloths are just that… skin deep.

The Korean footsteps are being followed by the Chinese now.

  • Sam-R

Correct me if I’m wrong but the head designer at KIA came from Audi did he?

  • Ryan

The front is pretty much taken off the Volvo S60 concept. The bumper, the shape of the grill, and the angle of the lights.

The only reason that hyundai and kia cars are ‘attractive’ is that all their designs are taken off other cars.

  • gasman

“.. the front bumper is taken off this…” ; “.. the rear looks like this…”
Heard that thousands of times before with each car that comes out. Does it occur most car manufacturers follow a similar design theme? There are a few brave designers out there, but most low and behold are ‘mish-mashes’ of each other.

But if we were to blame someone, then I think we should blame Peter Schreyer for ‘copying’ the designs… he is apparently the head designer

PS Mazda should stop copying Peugeot’s front grill.. d’oh! now I’m doing it…

  • Angel

Will they try to sell it the same price-range as a S-Class Benz?

ie follow the same bizzare price formula structure ass[sic] they have with the rSoul?

$19,990 driveaway for a fully-loaded one, not a penny more
