Honda CR-Z with all-electric AWD drivetrain to race up Pikes Peak

According to Honda, the heavily modified and bewinged CR-Z is an all-electric vehicle equipped with the company's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) and Precision All-Wheel Steer (PAWS) systems.

How many motors it has, its torque and power outputs, and its range and performance figures are all a mystery. Piloting the electric CR-Z will be Tetsuya Yamano, a racer who normally competes in the Japan Super GT series.

The fully electric coupe will be featured in the exhibition category alongside a Honda Jazz B-Spec rally car, which usually races on the Rally America circuit.

Other Honda entries include a Jazz EV, a heavily modified first-generation Honda NSX, and versions of the company's Acura TLX and ILX sedans. A further seven Honda vehicles will compete in the ATV, UTV and motorcycle classes.

The yet-to-go-into-production second-generation Acura NSX will also act as the pace car (below) for the event.

The 93rd Pikes Peak International Hill Climb takes place on Sunday, June 28, US time. From the start to the finish line, drivers and riders will cover 20 kilometres, tackle 156 corners and deal with an elevation change of 1440 metres.
